Started tapering off Effexor

Posted by wacky on August 11, 2006, at 4:00:26

Today is my first day starting the taper. I've dropped down 75mg (from 450). Next week I'll drop another 75. Pdoc says problems most like to occur the last week or two.

I told him I don't want any side effects the first two weeks of September (because of work). Then he asked me why I'm doing this now? I told him about the sweating, heatstroke etc - and I want off it completely. So we have a plan - and I am to call if I experience ANY adverse withdrawals.

I feel good about the support. Keep your fingers crossed I don't need to pick up the phone!

Whatever you do, don't skip days between doses. You are better off taking fractions of pills several times a day than taking whole pills every few days.

:-)

Good luck.

Well I might have forgotten - Scott- so thank you for the reminder! I have already written out the exact dose for every day and the list sits next to my bottles. Not that I'M anal..nope...not me.

It's so cool having people to communicate with that really KNOW what's going on.

Thanks Dr. Bob for creating this environment. I have really benefitted from it.

Re: Update - down to 225 mg

I am now down to 225 mg as of Wed. (8-23). I've dropped 75 mg per week and it's been tolerable. The only sensations of withdrawal have been a little woozy feeling and a slight headachey feeling. When I dropped to 225, I did notice a bit more of the woozy and light-headedness and it's seems to be hanging on longer. It's tolerable - but not a great feeling - but at least I can still work. I decided to stay at this dose for a few weeks since the symptoms seem to get more pronounced the lower the dose goes.

I'm sure glad I was prepared for this. I'm also fortunate that I'm not one of the hyper-sensitive people that really suffer!

Nancy
