Lamictal withdrawal or oxycontin?

Posted by floridagal on May 26, 2006, at 18:28:48

My fiance left for the hospital today to be "detoxed" from Lamictal. He takes 300mg/day as a mood stabilizer for bipolar. However, I cannot find anything online about the withdrawal symptoms of lamictal. He had major restless legs and arms last night and seems really depressed. Has anyone out there ever quit lamictal cold turkey? If so, what happened? I am curious because I have a suspision that he is also coming off oxycontin. Thank you for any help you can give.

I have stopped taking lamictal after 4 months of taking it and I had absolutely no withdrawal. It is very likely that your husbands withdrawal is from oxycontin. It can be as bad as heroin withdrawal.

One of the possible withdrawal symptoms of discontinuing Lamictal "cold turkey" is epileptic seizure. I don't see the advantage in withdrawing the drug so abruptly unless it is medically necessary. Depression is also a withdrawal symptom of discontinuing Lamictal too quickly. I suspect that the other things you describe are the result of oxycodone withdrawal.

Of course, depression is also a symptom of oxycodone withdrawal.

Thanks for the help. He fessed up. Was never able to get off oxycontin in January and has been on suboxone for the last few months. He didn't want to do the 18-24 month program, so he's in rapid detox now. Thanks for helping confirm my suspicions.
