All I have to say is damn... I've kicked Heroin OxyContin and Methadone and there were points I wanted to die. What amazes me is the stuff I read here about antidepressents and the like. The stuff you people are describing is in many cases worse than kicking dope or OCs. Only the meth kick seems worse than the stuff I see posted here. I know xanax and other benzos could be a rough kick but I didn't know things like effexor took you longer to quit than dope!
Well good luck with kicking pills. The less drugs in your life the better.

yeah, I know what you mean. welcome to the site. There's a substance board as well if you ever want to talk about some of that. I've detoxed from alcohol many times, and never suffered as much as coming off of Paxil. I also believe that many of the psych meds I've taken (such as zyprexa and serzone) have hurt me more than the intoxicants. But I also have some denial still. And the truth is, I had (and still have to) to take something for depression because I wasn't making it at all. so life goes on.

Yes, I must say, I have much more sympathy for people detoxing from street drugs now that I've had to quit some prescribed (not abused) drugs. I can understand so much more now about how it feels to have a substance suddenly taken away. It's not that you consciously want it, it's that your body is telling you that you NEED it. It's horrible. My advice to anyone, is that if your doctor wants to put you on meds, seriously consider if you ever want to live without them, because you may not be able to, or at least not very well. I had to go on meds, because I was non-functioning without them, but I would have to ask people to seriously consider the long term possibilities if they can live without them.

I'm in the same place as you, Siegfried....methadone was the only one that took FOREVER to kick....the others lasted maybe a week, you got it out of your system, and you were good to go. Now I'm trying to get off this d*** Cymbalta and people are saying it takes weeks, maybe MONTHS...and you have to taper so gradually they're opening their capsules and counting the granules!!! I've gone off Paxil before, never had this problem...this sucks. Now I'm afraid to take anything, I was only on the d*** stuff 3 weeks!

Yes the methadone was certainly the hardest kick of them all that I have experienced. Actually opening up a capsule and counting granules is def up there though... I can definitely imagine the hell that is like. Good luck on your detox Avalon. I hope it won't be quite as painful as you have described.
