Advice on how to help?

Posted by Deneb on April 26, 2014, at 21:43:33

I found out through my Mom that one of my cousins in NYC is going through a very rough time. Apparently he went to a very good university and got excellent grades etc but then something happened to him.

His friends saw something was very wrong and took him to the hospital where he was admitted and not permitted to leave for 2 weeks.

I don't really know him at all despite being relatives. From just the hearsay, it seems that he has just stopped talking entirely. He is extremely intelligent but he can't find a job. He had gotten a low skilled job previously be he quit because he didn't like it. Now he's a shut in and seems to have given up on life.

I was thinking of visiting NYC next weekend to meet up with Dr. Bob and Babblers. It's slow at work now so I might be able to get an extra day off for the weekend. I was thinking I could visit my cousin as well (plus play my game of course).

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can best help him?

It's kind of tricky because I really don't know him at all but I want to help because we're family.

Thanks!

Maybe you should check with your aunt/uncle or any siblings of his first, to better understand what's going on. It may be schizophrenia.

Thanks. It seems that I can't make it to NYC after all. It's just way too expensive this last minute. I'll try to get in touch with his younger brother.
