I got deemed SPMI today. "Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill" I really don't like the sound of that. It sounds like you're really, really sick and gonna stay that way. I cried for a long time after that. I wonder if they realize how stigmatizing and sad that phrase is.

who said that? T's would never say that...it doesn't sound like a very helpful thing to tell somebody to help them get better.

I would not infer prognosis from this description.
I would say SPMIUUN. "Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill Up Until Now"
This description has been accurate for a great many people over the last 50 years. As each new treatment becomes available, a certain percentage of previously TRD patients will become responders.
