Michelle Kwan was injured and withdrew.

So sad. Such a great skater, and loses her chance at winning an Olympic medal.
Practicing, she fell, and suffered a severe groin injury.
I feel so bad for her.

Oh no. Poor Michelle. It would have been so wonderful to see her finally win gold. I wonder if she'll quit competing entirely. What a loss.

Well now I'm putting my hopes on Sasha.

Gosh, what a bummer. However, didn't she have an injury that prevented her from competing in the qualifying competition for the olympics, but they selected her for the team anyway? What about that other skater that would have been in the olympics if Kwan hadn't gone? Do they have an alternate system? Can she compete now that Kwan is out?

I feel sorry for the girl who didn't make the team b/c they took Kwan. I bet she's ticked off about how this all played out. I guess I can sympathize b/c I was always the one who was soooo close to getting something, but just lost by a hair.

But, I'm sad for Kwan too. She is very talented and I hate to see her missing out.

Best,
EE

They say she was not favored to medal this time. Do you think part of her feels a bit of relief? Not at being injured, but because she doesn't need to compete after all? Just because she IS getting older, it IS stressful to compete and maybe she knows she doesn't really have a gold in her this time?

Or was she looking forward to going out there and doing her best, favored or not?

I'm sorry, though. I always liked her a lot - she seem "nice" (although how can I tell from a few interviews, right?) But she does seem nice, and down to earth, and just all-around-awesome. I hope she recovers and that her future career is strong and fantastic.

Yeah, it would've been quite a long-shot for her to win, but you never know. I think the new scoring system would have worked against her though, as the younger skaters seem to do more difficult elements than she does.
