Monchichi got me thinking about this. My earliest memory was when I was two and almost cut my toe off. My Uncle was in the landscaping business, and he put these metal things around his flower beds and trees. I have a vivid memory of looking up at him from far below, and him shaking his finger at me while saying, 'Don't you play around those, you hear?' I clearly remember thinking in a sassy tone, 'I'm going to anyway.' The next thing I remember is being in the hospital and how all the nurses seemed to be rushing around everywhere. I now know I cut my foot on the metal thing and my toe was pretty much hanging off. My Mom said my Uncle went home and immediately ripped all those metal things up and never used them again.
I remember alot more when I was three, that's when my brother was born, but that one memory at two is the earliest.
My brother said he used to think he remembered the setting of a picture of him and our cousin at about one. But he said everyone told him it was impossible, so he started doubting it, and now he can't remember it anymore.
Oh, theme songs I remember:
- Kids are people too
- Zoom
- 'Picture Pages' on Captain Kangaroo
- The Slinky gingle
- The Coke commercial, 'I'd like to teach the world to sing'
- I also remember the commercial with the Indian crying one tear because we've littered up his former lands so badly. That one made me cry, I didn't like seeing a grown man cry.
- Oh, and Romper Room, where the lady looked in a mirror and named all the kids she could see watching. I remember eagerly waiting for my name and thinking she was magic. Of course, she was really just reading off random names.
- I also remember having the chicken pox and watching Batman with Adam West while trying not to scratch.
- A personal memory, my brother had a really bad inner ear infection when he was two. I remember my Dad holding him while he went into convulsions and his eyes rolling back so you could just see the whites.

Stuffing the top of a freshly blown off dandelion up my nose. No big medical intervention required, thankfully. The memory is very vivid and was confirmed by the extractor - my Mom.I was a bright child.

Ok.... you guys must be in the same generation as me. I remember watching the first season of Star Trek, Roger Ramjet, etc.
I hope I don't offend anyone with this... I was only 3 or four, but I remember this very large woman in a store, and I was wondering how she got through the door.
I remember sitting in my grandmother's lap and "reading" the newspaper with her.
I remember my mother getting mad at me because I wouldn't come in. I hit the window on the door and it broke and I had to go to the hospital for stitches.
I can't remember anything from as far back as two though. I really don't remember anything before about 4, but that's the age that I first started learning English. Before that I spoke French, and I've lost my French. Maybe if I learned it again I could remember better. Who knows?

You know love, I'm never ever going to be able to think of you without a dandelion stuffed up your nose.
Do you know what you've just done to yourself?

> Do you know what you've just done to yourself?I am laughing. Yes, my near and dear should be howling at the image. You know - I may have figured out the true cause of my difficulties - maybe it's still up there doing some kinda number on my brain.
Freud would have a hayday with it...
Love to you, Gab

My earliest memory is just a flash, but it also led to injury. I remember walking down the hallway (toddling, probably), and seeing newspapers on the floor. They were hardwood, and we were moving into the house, so the papers were protecting the floors. Apparently that day I feel down the basement stairs because someone left the door open and I wasn't being watched like a hawk.
I also remember bits and pieces of surgery/hospitalization from when I was probably 2 and a half. All my earliest memories are just flashes..lasting just a few seconds, and they are usually of more significant events.

Hey, we must be near the same age, or maybe we were neighbors and watched TV together! :)Oh, theme songs I remember:

My sis and I used to play it with a tennis racket.

Being in only diapers and having my picture taken. I was embarrassed I couldn't have remembered that someone must have said this to me. Fondly, Phillipa

Either being bitten by my gramma's dog on the nose, or my sister coming home and hating her until she "gave" me a doll... then loving her

such an interesting and good question tc! and i remember those monchichis.:)
i believe my earliest memory is of my father throwing me up in the air, and of my being terrified. i remember i couldn't communicate to him that i was scared and wanted him to stop (probably couldn't talk yet), but he had to see that i wasn't happy. and he just kept throwing me.
this brings me to another memory...i was probably around 4 or 5...of my father making me say "bloody mary" 9 times in the mirror...and he knew i spooked easily. anyway...sorry...maybe you only wanted happy replies...my childhood was way heinous man. (sorry..i'm way depressed right now..probably shouldn't have even responded to this.)

No that's okay Alesta. All are welcome in TexasChic's threads. (Yes, I just referred to myself in third person).
That bloody mary thing is AWFUL!!! What a thing to do to a child. I guess all of us here at babble have more to overcome than most. But WE SHALL OVERCOME! (In honor of the late Martin Luther King Jr.)
Overcoming our crappy childhoods only makes us stronger. And I really believe that. Most people wouldn't be able to deal with the things people here have gone through. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my past.

The blackness doesn't start until I got older -- like school age. My friends that I've known forever are always amazed at what I can remember about the preschool age, but also amazed at what I can't remember
This is the end of the thread.
