New here! Hi everyone!

Posted by Sonya on June 9, 2005, at 18:36:24

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to this so bear with me if I'm too chatty or whatever. I've been reading these posts for a few weeks and thought it would be nice to have the support of you kind folks. Was diagnosed Bipolar II last year but don't really believe the diagnosis. Long history of anxiety and depression and going through moderate depression lately. So want to reach out as it's so easy to isolate myself, and especially difficult to talk to people who can't relate to what it's like. I look forward to chatting with you all.

Hi Sonya! What's up with the diagnosis? Are you going to get a 2nd opinion?

Hi Sonya,

Welcome to babble. I don't believe in DXs very much. I think they're something that is just to fill in a blank on insurance paperwork.

Glad you found babble.

Hi Jazzy - I've thought of getting a second opinion but my current pdoc doesn't think a diagnosis is all that important if the meds are working. I've tried almost every AD known to man and they work only briefly then cause rapid cyling. Last year I got the BPII diagnosis in the hospital after taking an overdose of sedatives. Now my only med choices to handle the depression and anxiety are mood stabilizers and antipsyhotics because my pdoc won't prescribe sedatives (I also have a history of sedative addiction/abuse). I feel I'm running out of options.

Welcome.

Your doc is right in a sense. The diagnosis isn't nearly as important as getting the right treatment.

But I doubt you are anywhere near the number of permutations (millions??) of med combos. The folks on the med board are pretty knowledgable on those issues so don't be afraid to ask.

You say the folks on the med board are knowledgeable. Are any of them professionals or just experienced from taking meds themselves?
