And by some miracle I don't quite understand I've survived. Sadly though, today I have to tell both of my team that they haven't. Three of my best friends were also voted off the island yesterday. It was a sh*t day and today will be worse, way worse. But I still have a job.

Awful feeling. I've had to do it too, and over the last 4 years our department has had 6 (at least) major rounds of redundencies.
As a person who's been on both sides, the ones let go have it easier. Survivor guilt is a witch.
You've got my sympathies. I'll be thinking of you.

Oh crap Damos, I'm sorry to hear that. Survivor guilt- I'd hate to see people go too, but best of luck to you. You're an asset to the team and the tribe.

> <joke>Thanks Alex, oh please let it be so. Big hugs to you too. I want to respond to you about Factitious Disorder but just can't quite get myself together at the minute. Broke the news to my guys a little while ago and am just so full of pride and admiration for the way they handled themselves. I'm a mess (but putting on a brave face) and having just seen a post from Sunny over on 'Relate' has me rather bleary eyed at the minute.
Love ya kiddo hope you're doing okay.

Thanks AuntieMel,
You're right, I have a sneaking suspicion that they've got the gold mine and I've got the shaft.
Aint no good way of doing this on either side, but we're all coping so far.
Thanks again.

Perhaps you can apply for the position of "village shaman" instead, it sounds well....more prestigious and mystical. :-)

I'm happy that you still have your job, of course. But I'm sorry about the rest. I know how stressful it can be, as my husband's been through it a few times. Not with his closest friends though. :(

Hey you,
Why ya feeling fragile, anything uncle Damos can do? Yesterday was pretty ordinary and just plain sad, but I'm doing okay today - so far. On the bright side I should be able to afford to come to NZ some time relatively soon to say G'day, may be August if things pan out okay.

My job is nothing compared to your being okay. Can't tell you how glad I am that you're still with us and slowly coming back to babble. I'm here anytime you need me okay.

it's not easy to go thru what you have with these layoffs. Did you personally have to lay anyone off? If i had to be laid off, i would want you to do it. I have no doubt you would be sensitive, understanding and compassionate.
sometimes there isn't any rhyme or reason to the selection process in terms of who stays and who goes. In your case however, it's obvious they know a good thing when they see it. Big hugs to my sweetie (((damos)))

Yeh I had to tell my two guys yesterday that they have been displaced (gotta love corporate speak). Which officially means that they don;t have a position in the new organisation but have not been given their 30 days notice. This means that after having put them through this we may yet offer or appoint them to some left over position that hasn't been filled because no-one else would take it or we got it wrong in the first place and wait for it.....if they don't want it then they'd have to resign - no retrenchment because they've refused an offer of continued employment. Loved giving that message. Am I sounding bitter about it, boy I hope so. GRRRRRRRRRRR. Sorry to chuck a wobbly in reply ana, thanks for your kind words, I did the best I could to prepare them for the news and then to deliver it when it came.
