What do you think of them?
I'm obsessed at the moment with getting one and am trying to get over that.

How about ones that are also phones?

I have an older Palm OS device-- a Handspring Visor, no phone. I like the Graffiti text entry feature. It's really just become an address book though. I used the planner and record-keeping programs for a bit, but honestly I prefer a little paper notebook or 3x5 cards for that. As an address book it's nice-- though I wish I had one of the newer, thinner models.

Hey Tabitha! It's nice to see you again.
I was looking at them today, and I think that's all I would use it for as well.
Soooo....
Besides, I think I can get my iPod to transfer contacts from Outlook.
Thanks! :)

Nice to see you too, dear. I'm impressed that you went to Chicago! Seems like it would take quite a bit of courage to meet face-to-face. What did hubby think? Hope you had a great time.

Hubby's ok now I'm home in one piece, and has no objections to my going next year. I guess if I ignore his silliness, he gets over it.
It was great. Like meeting old friends. Which it was!!

Dinah -
I love my Palm ... it's old (4 years) and I'm looking to upgrade myself. Loved GG's and was checking hers out at dinner.
I use my faithfully for everything. It's so nice not having bunches of paper in my purse (besides the occasional coupon or two). My friend swears by the phone one, but I find them too bulky. My calendar is the one I go by. I do have a "real" calendar in the kitchen, but if I'm checking a date, I need to pull out my Palm. Love it, love it, love it!!
It's my second favorite to my ipod :)

:)
I tried a few today at various stores, and found them rather difficult to understand.
I'm leaning against at the moment, but I keep trying to change my mind. Oooh, wouldn't it be great to buy that calorie counting program and keep accurate track? Oooh, you can get a navigational system and iPaq for the same price as the navigational system alone. (Never mind that I never navigate anywhere. lol.)
I hope I don't change my own mind and decide to get one. My husband is still pretending not to know about the iPod.

When you make your appointments with your T, do you carry a franklin planner type calendar in your purse?
You will find the Palm to be so much more efficient. And I love that I can add a date once and add "repeat" every week (for therapy or piano lessons).
Check out www.palmone.com
And I believe you can write it off as a business expense (I had my company pay for it).

In my purse? :) More like cradled in my arms like a baby.
I have one of the standard classic size Day Planners, because I need quarter hour time chunks. But I write my appts on the monthly divider pages.
I sort of love my Day Planner and wouldn't like to give it up. I've got one of those big old zippered cases for it, in pink leather of course. (Used to be tapestry.) I keep all my psychological testing papers tucked in the very very back, my envelope of Big Issues for when I have time in therapy, printouts from Babble, both recent and again for when I have time. And all the small things I don't want anyone but me to see. My husband might conceivably open my purse to get my wallet and put my new insurance card on it, but he'd never open my Day Planner.
I wasn't planning to give it up, even if I got a Palm PC. lol.
Although I thought it would be great if I could buy some list programs for it, or something like they have on some PC's that keep time automatically with their own clocks, so that you enter when you start something and end it, and it lets you know how long it's been. Or a diet program to enter every morsel you eat and (if I ever start) what exercise you do. Because I keep gaining and gaining, and can't tell why.
Oh, and I'd better make a necklace holder for the pouch because otherwise it won't be any use at all because it won't be with me. :)
Oh dear. I'm talking myself into it, and I really can't afford it. Especially if I decide to go back to school.

Okay, I can relate. I used to tote around the midsize Franklin planner. What a pain. And I couldn't imagine giving it up and especially the zip-lock type pouches for all my "stuff".
So, I decided one August, I would buy my Palm (now outdated and desperately needing to grow with all the new technology) and keep my planner BOTH. Then by December, I would know which system I preferred. I think by the end of September I already threw out Franklin, and went steady with Palm :)
Another plus, you can have friends "beam" games to you (and other information). I find the games useful with my children when we are stuck waiting somewhere unexpectantly. "Mom, can I use your Palm?". Kindof drives me crazy since I have so much personal information in there, but I know all they care about are the games.
And one more consideration. I am still opting not for the phone + Palm model ... all my eggs in one basket. Too risky for me.
Good Luck with your decision AND going back to school. BRAVO!!

So, you got one!!!
And ..... how do you like it so far?
Now I really have the itch to update mine. But my computer is next on the list of technology updates, then the rest will follow.

Pretty well so far. I've rarely regretted investing in technology. I've regretted many other purchases, but not those. If it helps me actually request payment for all my time (since I'm hourly) and aids me in getting my work done in a timely fashion, it'll be well worth the cost.
This is the end of the thread.
