Sorry for more technical questions

Posted by Dinah on June 6, 2005, at 6:58:38

But my computer is acting up. If I do anything big on it and then try to log off, it freezes.

I think it is ok to restart it, but not to just log off.

It won't even turn off. I have to unplug the darn thing.

Then it loses my internet history and everything on Babble looks unread. Waaaaah.

Is there anything I can do, or do I need to take it to the Geek Squad.

(Last time I buy a computer at a store.) :(

You just installed Firefox, right?

I would look to that as the problem.

Uninstall it.

Or, go to a system restore point that you know your computer worked fine. Sometimes things just get messy. Blame Bill Gates.

To do the former, Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs

To do the latter, Start/Performance and Maintenance/System Restore (in the upper left, just follow the panels)

Dinah,

Do you have Ad-aware and Anti-Spyware programs on your computer? I ask because I had similar performance problems a couple of weeks ago, including not being able to log-off or even shut down without unplugging the laptop. In my case, my computer was infested with worms, viruses and trojans. I had it serviced and it took the tech over an hour to get rid of everything. He then installed 2 anti-spyware programs, an Ad-aware program and Norton Anti-virus program. Norton runs in the background, and catches things on an on-going basis. The others I was told to run once or twice a month. Anyway, my computer has been working very well since I got rid of all the worms and viruses. I'm not saying that's what's wrong with your pc, but it is something you might might to check out.

Hope you get the problem solved soon.

Tamara

It was doing it pre-Firefox.

But it might have coincided with the last lavasoft upgrade.

Let me look into that.
