What's the point of going to Toronto next May if there's no Butt R. Tart there?

Hopefully they are getting there...

'In jokes' aren't much fun when you aren't in on the joke :-(

Although... Newbies would find this quite a lot. Maybe it is more to do with being the topic of a joke and not getting it.

I'm afraid there is no really long version.

There was a pirate for a children's play there that reminded some people of your picture (the one you have at PC, I guess).

Gosh, I think I take the fun out of any story.

But unless I missed something, that was the long version.

And Alexandra, I don't think anyone intended for there to be an "in" joke. It's just that that was the long story, and I think people thought they had conveyed it adequately.

Lar....just a hoot from down here in St. Catharines. You know, whenever I go up to my folks cottage on Silent Lake (near Bancroft...an hour or so north of Peterborough), usually on the way back I stop off in Peterborough for a night to stay at the Holiday Inn down by the water...what is the name of the lake? Great room service!!! Hey, we should have a BabbleCon gathering in Toronto either this summer or next year. My condolences

Oh, that only referred to one tart among a group, "the progeny....of his generation". I have already contacted Betty (well, actually Nancy, as Betty sold to Nancy in 2002) and she will be happy to supply all the tarts I wish to have in order to make the Butt R Tart Memorial Gathering 2006 a success.

I was contemplating having dozens of dozens of tarts, quite honestly. A serious tart fest. Not for the faint of tart.

Toph said Henry the VIIIth? Pirate? Arrr!

I ought to update that shot. Believe it or not, I don't have a lot of pictures of me, and that one is not all that recent (15 years ago?). I got a more recent one around Christmas when I did a guest editorial in the paper. My beard has gone more white now. The red has faded a bit in my hair, too.

Little Lake.

You really ought to try and time your visit to Peterborough to coincide with the free waterfront concert series. This summer, Tom Cochrane and Red Rider are July 1. Lighthouse is July 9. There are tribute bands on the following nights: Elvis (July 16), Beach Boys (August 20), Beatles (August 24). There are others, also (all on Wednesdays and Saturdays). All followed by fireworks. All free! Oh, I said that already.

Babblemail me, if you want to get together.

> Great room service!!! Hey, we should have a BabbleCon gathering in Toronto either this summer or next year.

Next May, dude. It's already in the works. Bob suggested May 19-21, because he'll be in Toronto for the APA convention.

I saw this guy in costume who passsed by the restaurant (we were eating outside). I thought there was a vague resemblence to said photo on PC. I quipped, hey there's Larry. It was a beard thing. No offense intended. Thanks for being a sport about it. I appreciate alex's point of view and thanks for explaining Dinah. Sorry.

I will indeed...because I used to be pretty good friends with Tom Cochrane (I ran his website), would love to see the show, and I will see if I can get some passes to meet and hang out with Tom if you want to go. He is a really nice guy. If not...we can make it for one of the other shows.

Are you helping to plan this thing in Toronto next May? I think you are, I remember reading that .. I'll have to find out what else is happening in the area at that time. I'll have to take a trip to .. does Grimsby still exist? I spent a few years there, and on Spadina Avenue in Hamilton, as well. I'm going to find out, I'm going to make that trip I've always wanted to make, explode the myth of my childhood.

My mother introduced us to butter tarts forty years ago, I'm going to bring some, I've never actually made them myself, or I have and I just don't remember. But it's brown sugar, butter, syrup I think, raisins, a bit of nutmeg, maybe?, an egg or two .. in pastry. And the pastry matters. It can't just be anything. It should be really light and flaky. Maybe I'll re-learn how to make them and we could have a buttertart baking contest.. and Larry Hoover, King of Buttertarts, could be the judge ... I bow before thee, o mighty master.

All right, I just had a BRILLIANT idea of what to substitute for corn syrup .. and I'm the only one who knows.. and it's brilliant, absolutely, because nobody else will ever think of this, it's MINE (rubbing my hands gleefully as I plan my recipe...) and it's going to be Delicious.

Oh. Well maybe there's another Spadina in Hamilton, that happens. I don't know, maybe we did live in Toronto for awhile, I'll have to find out, I want to check out where I've been. We lived in Grimsby Beach, right on the lake. It was lovely. From what I can remember.
