At 37, I honestly can say I've never known a truly good, loving Valentine's Day. Most have been alone. Many have been with tears. It's one of the emptiest feelings I ever get, being so alone on a day when the world celebrates love. I know real life doesn't measure up to the fantasy ads of jewelers and stuff, but still it hurts.
So, I want to wish all of you a happy Valentine's Day tomorrow. It's not a romantic love, but it's a friendship love. None of you is alone. I promise. Some of my favorite friendship quotes:
1. A friend is one who walks in when others walk out.
2. Never judge someone by who he's in love with; judge him by his friends. People fall in love with the most appalling people. Take a cool, appraising glance at his pals.
3. In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. The young they keep out of mischief; to the old they are a comfort and aid in their weakness, and those in the prime of life they incite to noble deeds.
4. A friend is someone who sees through you and still enjoys the view.
5. Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief.
6. A faithful friend is the medicine of life.
7. Two persons cannot long be friends if they cannot forgive each other's little failings.
8. Love is only chatter, friends are all that matter.
9. A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world.
10. How delightful to find a friend in everyone.

Well..here is a question that has haunted me throughout my 35 years...and my years of romantic relationships. How and why can someone show interest in you, but then turn right around and reject you? 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, etc....I can almost count the number of times this has happened. I am sure it has happened to many others out there too. Like the song says.."One night we are bathed in light...the next day carried away in storms..". Oyyyy...

Jay,
For whatever it's worth, each person usually only gets one relationship that *succeeds.* That's the one that lasts a lifetime. The rest of it is trial and error.
And don't *ever* think of it as someone rejecting you. It's that two people aren't compatible. Both could be great people, just not compatible with one another.
:-)
This is the day to love yourself. Tell yourself 10 great things you like about *you.* :-)
