You can buy stuff at the drugstore now to "numb"
your bladder - it used to be available only by rX
but you can get it OTC now thank God. I can't think of the name of the stuff but if you go into the drugstore and ask the pharmacist...it will turn your pee orange but who cares, the relief is what matters. Of course this is a temporary measure until you can get to the doctor for some antibiotics.I used to be plagued by UTI even though I was doing everything the docs instructed - showers instead of baths, cranberry juice and Vitamin C, etc. I even had a cystoscope (now there's a good time) but the infections kept coming back. Finally I read in a magazine (that must have been heaven-sent) that some women just can't use tampons because it squeezes the urethra shut so the bladder never empties completely, and the old trapped urine ignites infection. I thought well hell let's give it a try, and IT WORKED. The infections went away for good, merciful heavens.
You couldn't pay me to use a tampon these days.

wow, thanks for the tip about the bladder number stuff. orange pee sounds like a bonus -- some fun amid the misery. I got to the doc already, amazingly enough my crappy HMO has 'UTI symptoms' listed on their walk-in appointment criteria.
tampons? hmmm... here I was blaming the unaccustomed sexual activity. But tampons were involved as well, and you know they do seem to create uncomfortable pressure on the bladder for me. Thanks for the tip.

LOL the neon orange pee is kind of amusing. I can't believe not one of my doctors told me the thing about tampons even though I was being treated all the time for UTI. And of course the tampon manufacturers would never mention that little detail.
