I'm impressed ... how do you do it?!

Wow - Phil and Beardy both said that they jog (or racewalk) at 7 IN THE MORNING - do you do this DAILY? OMG, this is quite impressive to me, who has severe insomnia, can't get to sleep till the wee hours of the morning, then can't emerge from bed till late morning or at worst, early afternoon.

While you're out and about jogging, I'm dead to the world.

Do you folks go to sleep early, FALL asleep easily and thus are able to rise so early and JOG? (I admire you).

I have severe chronic insomnia. I could lie with my eyes closed all night and not sleep a wink. But I am on Serzone for that, so I am relatively free of difficulty. (I took a sleeping pill last night because my daughter woke me at 2:00 by knocking on the wall!)

When you have kids, you will understand the concept of going to bed at 9:30 and waking up at 5:30. I am fortunate, however, as my insomnia med allows me sometimes 9 hours of sleep! I sleep from 9:30 or 10:00 to 6:30 or 7:00 most days.

In addition, as your docs have probably already told you, regular, vigorous exercise enhances your mood and improves your sleep. (As do B vitamins.)

The downside of all this is that I can't seem to stay awake to watch movies.

My pdoc also believes we each have a sleep threshold--a window of time (usually an hour) when we fall asleep fastest. Mine is 9:00 to 10:00, which is a good thing, since the little one's up at 6:30.

Holy cow - so YOU even have severe chronic insomnia. I think many folks with the conditions that those of us who post on PB about happen to have insomnia.

Anyway, what you described is just what I do - I lie there, hour after hour, with my eyes closed all night and not sleep a wink. Finally, something happens at some wee hour and I do fall asleep. It is TERRIBLE.

I may wind up on Serzone for this myself, as the next step in tweaking my cocktail might be to take me off Effexor as my AD and find a more sedating one.

You mentioned that you have kids, and mentioned "the little one," so the curious one here just wonders how many you have and what their ages are?

You made a reference to your "insomnia med" - I take it that this is Serzone?

Interesting theory that your pdoc has (it makes a lot of sense) about how we each have a sleep threshold--a window of time (usually an hour) when we fall asleep fastest. Mine is currently between 3 and 4 in the morning and this has GOTTA be changed!

My daughter is four. Yes, ask about Serzone; it's great. I take it at night at bedtime. It completely erases anxiety about sleeping. It started to work for me in about two weeks, so stick with it for at least that long before expecting results. It has worked for three years and has never pooped out! I do not use it for happiness, though, which requires a higher dose and may be less effective for sleep, though I've heard it's still good for sleep.

But do try those B vitamins. They may help you use energy more efficiently in the day so you sleep better (or relax better) at night. I'm sure you have tried the hot bath, reading, etc. to enhance sleep. And get started with your mediatation practice. Give yourself ten minutes when you wake up in the morning.

Wow ... a four-year-old daughter ... what a cute age, but what a challenge I imagine it must be. I imagine (hope) you have a supportive (emotional, financial) spouse.

Just curious - since you mentioned "the little one" in previous thread, this seemed to imply to me that maybe you have a "big one" or two, or do you just have the one daughter? Again, just curious me wondering. (btw, as you already figured out, I have no children, or perhaps I could say I have one child - ME)

Okay, now there's bona fide proof of aliens among us - those people you see jogging first thing in the morning. Now I'm nervous about responding to Phil & Beire-dei's posts, they're not human. Here, I always assumed when everybody becomes perfect, that we'll all sleep in till 10 or 11.

Years ago, my Mom used to come over & try to drag me out for early morning fast walks. She insisted I'd feel good once I got used to it. I stuck with it for a couple of weeks then gave up & went back to my early evening walks. After the morning walks, I'd come back, non-stop yawning, & crawl back into bed. It made me feel worse, not better.

C'mon shar, I started the Robes for Roads running club!
I quit running when my no belt robe and blown out Teva's started attracting too much attention.
The 6 minute mile people laughed so hard they would injure themselves.
Now, I'm on the treadmill at home. Not exercising. I just like standing on it.

Actually, the current AD's killed my desire for morning exercise or any exercise for that matter.

Amen to that. I was up at 2am, 4am and 6am nursing last night- can babies be insomniacs? But I love showing her off and have a baby jogger and off we go. I'm also big on B vitamins and now DHA fatty acids and I just read about that in Medscape (got a great holistic doc)- Take care, Judy
