So I eat out all the time because I resent cooking. It's one of my biggest problems. Eating out means eating antibiotic polluted meat and pesticides etc. I don't know why I resent cooking. Also, I am bored to death because I caught a cold and I need to rest. Rest is good for the cold but bad for the psyche.
Any tips for the cooking?

Before I split with my husband 4 years ago, I used to cook dinner every night. For the last 4 years, I can count on my hands the number of nights I have really cooked a healthy dinner - and all of those were when I had dinner parties. For a couple of years I got salad from salad bars (a few very good places nearby), but I got so sick of salad bar, I can barely eat it anymore. Now I mostly have sandwiches, cereal, take-out or go out to eat and eat the leftovers for a night or two (restaurant portions are ridiculously enormous in the USA, enough to feed 3 people.
I think living alone often does this. Too much trouble to cook for one person.

I only resent cooking if I am not particularly thrilled about what I've made.
I am not a particularly good cook. I would not feel comfortable cooking for others.
I prefer to make pot roasts in my slow cooker or oven roasts and then live off of it cold over the next couple days. Have roast chicken and vegetable sandwiches, or whatever.
I make soup from chicken bones / some of the meat that is left in the slow cooker. Lots of split green peas and some barley. Even better for a rasher of bacon, if I've got some. It makes a thick soup that is pretty good for a couple days, again.
It is a way of living off of mostly meat and veges and only adding as much salt as I choose to add and no sugar.
I go through phases with other things, really. I need to figure out beef soups instead of eating so much chicken. I feel bad for the chickens...
I have been going through a hamburger phase lately because I've been able to get 2 decent grass fed serloin steaks for around $12 which will feed 8 steak burgers. That't lots of steak burgers :) Then I can make pan fries while I'm cutting the spinach and tomato... Decent aged cheddar and some caremalised onion... I was pretty excited about that.
I basically eat the same thing over and over until I make something else.
I guess I am my own family of 6, or whatever.

I like eggs, too. I wish I was a better cook, actually. I feel like my cooking is... A bit repetative. LIke the way I play computer games. I just sort of do the same thing over and over in a sort of a mindless way instead of actually getting better at it / actually becoming good.

I just don't seem to have a good handle on timing. I would like to be great at things like vegetable stir frys that are about timing things so everything is cooked so it is perfectly ready together. But I'm basically not that good at it.
Cooking for myself I can eat things just as soon as they are ready. I don't feel the need to sit at a table, even. I don't even have a table, even. Ha.
Partly it is about it not being so much fun when you don't have nice things to cook with. Knives that are sharp and well balanced so you can chop with good technique so it is fun to chop rather than being a dangerous chore.
Pans that distribute the heat evenly and are non-stick enough for... Flipping pancakes. Or whatever.
I have a rice pot that sheds black crap from the bottom of the pan every time I use it. So... I don't eat much rice. I would eat more if I was a better cooker of stir frys...
I like eggs but I don't have the non-stick pan for eggs.

It is about decent knives, primarily.
So you can chop the things to a particular size so they cook to known times.

Yeah, the kitchen is not the tidiest of all kitchens. That's a factor, too. My roommate can be a slob sometimes. I will be living on my own sometime soon. He is a better friend than roommate.
What do I like to eat? Hmm, I like pasta, potatos, beef... Sushi. I like spanish and mexican food. Also asian. I guess i should add vegetables.
I am somewhat particular with food. I usually eat the same thing over and over again until I get tired of it and switch.
