Can anyone help me? I am feeling horribly anxious, my meds aren't working...i am stuck in a terrible living situation with a relative who has many troubles of her own and it's exacerbating my depression. i see a therapist but i can't get in until two weeks..i see my pdoc next week...i can try to see my pdoc sooner but even then it's how many weeks until the next med may or may not kick in..he has been trying me on lithium but it's not working...
anyone?

Sounds rotten. :(
Do you have anything for the anxiety?
Can you get some distance from the relative?
I find both those things help a lot. I've been thinking lately about throwing some stuff in a suitcase and heading out somewhere. Anywhere. Is getting away for a bit a possibility?

Hi Dinah, thanks so much for your response.
For the anxiety I take ativan...I guess I would feel better if I thought my meds (lithium) were going to work but it's not looking good.
I have been going to a local restaurant and the library to "get away." My relative is always home and wants to be going everywhere/doing everything with me. It's very controlling.
Sometimes I just want to sleep in my car...I cannot take a trip unfortunately...

Hey Roslynn,
That really st*nks. Your relative sounds like he or she has many personal needs they're leaning on you for--and of all times!
I used to 'car-camp'; that is, I'd pile some books, drinking water, writing pads or craft stuff into the car and take off all day. I'd also be getting some sun in the car and getting outdoors (sort of) and still be comfortable on my 'couch'. Or listen to the radio, whatever.
I imagine going out might be difficult with drug adjustments and anxiety.
Is the Ativan working for you? I know I've said this before elsewhere, maybe even to you (so forgive me), and that is klonopin really helped me when I was unstable with anxiety in a deep down way. I took, jeez, maybe 0.5 like 4x a day or more at one point. I no longer take it--and switched to xanax xr at a lower dose when I felt better. When I took the klonopin, I also had xanax ir handy for break-through episodes.
You will feel better. This lithium trial sounds like really something. I'm sorry.
Keep posting--even if there is no one at home you can talk to, some one is always around here. Or babblemail someone you like....
hugs,
fb

I am no professional, just a psychiatric patient but if I was in your shoes, I would call in and ask for something to help with the acute anxiety even though you have an appointment coming up. Tell the doctor you can't wait and need something now. That's what it sounds like. As though you would appreciate having something to help you cope with the stress of your living situation and ASAP! I have something I take "as needed" for instances like the one you are describing and your doctor will know what to prescribe for acute anxiety. I am deliberately not telling you what I take because as a lay person I don't have qualifications to assess your situation and then suggest you ask for the same med.

Thank you all for your responses...i think i am stuck in some sort of weird anxiety/depression state...i'm tired yet very stressed..i do have ativan but it makes me fall asleep..then I get more anxious from sleeping during the day..
I'm afraid to take Klonopin because I heard it can contribute to depression..
it is very hard for me to get out because I'm tired while also being incredibly anxious..
can't get away from my relative who is always there..
This is the end of the thread.
