DH found out today he is losing his job after 24yr

Posted by SatinDoll on November 22, 2006, at 14:27:09

His company has filed banruptcy and the company buying them out aleady has a repuation of getting rid of the top guys. My DH called me 20 min. before my T session to tell me the news. I was crying all the way there, until I got hold of myself. But T could tell something was really wrong, had tears in my eyes. I don't even know all that I even said during the session, I was in shock. This will in the news because my DH's company is well known in the music industry.
But I am good at turning it off, when I felt it get too emotional, I changed the subject. T followed ( Dinah you are right about my T ). But he did come back to it though, he said I will have a lot to deal with now, and it won't be easy. I guess I will find out more tonight. But the whole house needs cleaned, I need to make the pumkin pies for tommorow's Thanksgiving with all the relatives there. I am making the entire dinner myself for 20 plus people and all I want to do is stay in bed and cry. :(

(((((((SATINDOLL)))))))
I'm so sorry. I know what you are going through as I've been through this 3 times with my DH. The last time was a year ago. It is devastating. And what timimg just before your session. You do have a lot to deal with and it isn't easy. I do know things do work out. The thing my DH has against him now days is his age. No body wants to hire a guy in his late 50's! At least if they hire them they aren't willing to promote them into a top job.
I'm sure they will offer some severance pay. Though that doesn't solve everything. What poor timimg, just before the hoidays!!!!
Let us know what happens.

I'm so sorry. Thats really awful. And the timing too!!! I hope something better opens up for him. Sometimes these things have a way of opening new doors and better opportunities. I lost my job five years ago and ended up doing something I never would have otherwise and its been the best thing that ever happened to me. Keep your chin up!

you have got to be kidding me. They told him that he was let go the DAY before thanksgiving?

OMG.

Are you sure he is going to be let go? and When is the date of termination?

Thinking about you

I'm so sorry, SD. Crappy news and crappy timing. I've been there (co. going bankrupt) and done that and I know it's no fun. But if you and your DH can somehow make it through the stress, there may be a better opportunity on the other side (there was for me).

Good luck with the T'giving dinner, too. You're a better woman than me for even attempting to feed 20 people.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and in the days to come.

That happened to me with my second husband a Fortune 500 company bought them out and he was in his 50's. He did get a years salary but blew it on a franchise. Make sure your husband doesn't panic it broke up the marriage as he was spending money left and right. I know your's won't do that as you were married a long time. Love Phillipa

I just sat down and came to babble like I usually do, and I was overwhelmed by the caring that you all have shown me and your thoughtfullness in my above post.

It just brings tears to my eyes to realize that people really do care, and to take the time to respond was so kind, and you didn't have to . It just means so very much, I am so glad I am still on babble. You friends make it feel like a real home here. I am truely touched by this . Your words really do mean a lot to me especially when the I am getting rocks thrown at me from every angle it seems. Thank you so much all.

Love,
SatinDoll

Hi Ladybug,

My DH is also older, in fact he is turning 60 in a couple of weeks, so I get that factor too. He went from paper boy, to elem. school teacher to the job he has had now for 23 years. This isn't something he is used to , in fact he thought he would retire with this company.

I don't believe there will be any severance pay since the company went banckrupt and in 60 days the company that bought them can do anything they want. My DH is a value asset in the buisness, but are they willing to pay him for that? It doesn't look good for him. I am just hoping they don't let him go, I would rather have them downsize him, so at least he is bringing in some money until he can figure something out.

My T was amazed at my attitude torwards this. He said most people would be devestated, but instead I am already thinking about how financially going to deal with this. I am devestated, but I guess I am going into survior mode now, I guess that is one positive of being an abused child. Nothing can be as bad as that. I guess my T underestimated my self confidence. LOL I guess I underestimated it myself. double LOL! It is truly a compliment to my T.

I guess the hard part is trying to get it all together, we are trying not to burden the kids with this news until something is more definate. There is a small chance nothing will change, in fact maybe we might get better benifits.

So today at 4 am, I was out buying the "cheap doorbuster deals" and buying the leftover turkeys for 5 bucks to stock up. I have to keep going like everything is going to be okay, but watch the spending more. It will be a strugle but I think I will be okay.

Thanks for your support Adrift :) (nm)

Yeah, they are jerks, I used to work for them too.
We know nothing other than my DH has a job for 60 days at least, anything else, we can't hold as a truth because they will be out of control after that.
This is what happens when the big companies suck up all the little ones. I guess bigger is better, they always win eventually.

Just seeing your name gives me comfort maddie, I really appreciate your support.

Thanks T Girl,

Somehow I think things will work out, life does that usually. But the stress, is a lot to deal with when everything was so stressful to begin with. I am almost thinking, damit, what is next? Bring it on damn it! I won't let them take over me.

Hi Phillipa,

Yeah, my DH is horrible with money. In fact he handed over his bank card for me to keep, because he knowns now that we must be careful with the spending.

I don't know about our marriage though, we are already strained to the max. Thanks for your support Phillipa.

The two of you have sure been handed a lot of troubles lately. :(

I think it's wise to not tell your kids until you're sure. We've been through many scares with my husband, and even when things looked bleakest everything seemed to turn out ok.

Thanks Dinah,

Yeah, I think I have had enough crap for awhile. Well since me and DH aren't talking much nowdays anyways, it shouldn't be too hard to not talk about this in front of the kids.

I have a small hope that things will be fine, I can handle the pay cut if that happens, but if they let him go, that will be so hard because we are not prepared at all financially
I guess all I can do it try not to stress out about it, what happens happens. Thanks for responding Dinah and your support.

SD, I'm so sorry. That really is a lousy, demoralizing thing. There's no good time-- but this is a horrible season to face that.

Do you and your DH have any sense of what his options are? where to go from here?

Thanks jost,
We don't know our options yet, it is too soon. So that part is scary, the not knowing.

The new company taking over in 2 months can do anything they want to the current employees. It is sort of a specialized field, so hopefully they will keep all of them for the time being. But my DH has put out the feelers already. He is rather popular in the field, very well known, so he will probably get something.
I just don't want to move away, I am just getting comfortable with my life where I am. But I guess I will have to do what I have to do. I will let you all know when I know something.

/hi SatinD

I've been on babble not so much lately. I just heard your news. I'm so sorry. I hope that you guys can figure out a way to make everything work out.

I'm glad your T is there for you. You will need his support during this time of uncertainty.

It's okay to be in shock, and to be emotionally unstable. That's very natural. I'm just hoping that you're not hurting too bad.

please take care,
-Li
