I interviewed for my dream job last Wed. and thought I wouldn't hear until after Thanksgiving whether I got it or not. I felt good about the interview and I thought that if I read the supervisor right, I was the frontrunner. But as good as I am at reading people (survival skill from childhood), when I do make mistakes, it's when I don't know someone well. So I wasn't all that sure.
But she called today and offered me the job. They came in a little higher than she thought they could. It's close to my house, interesting work, a non-profit that works with kids, great benefits. I'm so happy, I've been walking around the house WHOOPING (and I never, ever do things like that).
I had my T appt. about 3 hours after I got the call. It was very hard not to call and leave her a voice mail, but I didn't. I told her once I got there and she jumped up and ran over and grabbed me up into a big bear hug. I think if I was smaller, she would have lifted me up and spun me around the room. It was kind of fun (and a little different) to share news that good with someone who cared as much as I did about the outcome.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, fellow Babblers!!!

Wow that's great CONGRATS!!!
I actually just landed my first professional position in my field after graduating from the Masters program almost a year ago and going crazy running to interviews etc and having nothing pan out, but finallly it did. Yay! Must be something in the air this month! lol
Good luck!

Congrats to you, too. Isn't it great when it finally starts panning out?
I was laid off in June, paid through August (and I had a summer job), but nothing since then. It's been hard not to panic, but I was determined to wait for the RIGHT job this time. And it finally paid off!
When do you start? I start next week.

Thanks for the good wishes, everybody. You have no idea how happy and relieved I am about this job. Of course, I'll have less Babble time now, but there are always tradeoffs, right?
Thanks again for the support and encouragement.

Yep, I start next week too, on Monday!
Wow, I was a hold-out too, to the chagrin of my family. I've had very panicky moments, especially with the holidays approaching. My relatives telling me that the "library thing" wouldn't work out, that I should move back home, or get "any' job even if the pay is nothing and not rewarding, etc. I'm sort of a "new" breed in my family, so it's been hard not having much support. But,thankfully, it finally worked out. I hope it goes well. At least I'm able to hold my head up now and not feel so worthless. :-)

Hi Therapygirl,
I'm so happy for you. One major stress gone before the holidays. I got a job that uses my brain in October and so far so good. It's not my dream job, but it's much, much closer and dare I say it, I feel good about myself because I have it. I know how good you're feeling and I hope it lasts and lasts.

Thanks! I just finished day two. So far, so good, although I'm tired and overwhelmed by the number of people (I was previously at an extremely small 2-person company). I think this is a good, sane place though, and Lord knows I'm overdue for sanity at work.
[Remind me to tell you sometime about my former boss who carried on sexually at the office and lived there most of the time after his wife would kick him out.)
This is the end of the thread.
