Take a job that you are not qualified for, mix that with a pt. that is 3 months old, and add respiratory problems, and then do this job alone in someone's home. I am petrified and now I have to go take a tranquilizer because it is too late to back out. I sure wouldn't trust my judgement. Would you? OMG terrics

Are you really not qualified? Is there any way you can see the job as a means to getting qualified (i.e. getting the expereince) to do it? If you were hired, I assume you were able to persuade your employer that you could do it. You didn't lie on your resume?
If you didn't lie on your resume and your employer has confidence in you to do the job, then perhaps you need to find a way to believe you really are able to do it.
And perhaps it's a steep learning curve, but with a little experience and perhaps some reading (I don't know what the job invovles; is there anything you can read about best practice?) I'm sure you can do it.
Take it one hour at a time, and remember to breathe!
Oh, and one thing I think is always useful: if you're struggling, talk to your employer. Most employers want to help employees as much as possible.

Oh my..that's a lot of activating ingredients. I'd be terrified, too!
How are you doing now?

Hi gg, I am doing fairly well. I really was not qualified to take care of an 8lb 3 month old with respiratory problems, but I figured that even if the parents were sleeping and I had a problem I would have to wake them up. I made myself sick over this and decided that I would be better off sleeping than esculating or I would never go. So I slept and went and the baby is not very ill. If someone works for a nursing agency it does not seem like a real job, they will put you on any case even if you do not have a clue as to what you're doing. I am usually careful as to which cases I take, but I took a chance..shame, shame nurse Helen.
And how is school going? Almost finished right? Wish i had made a decision to be a S.W. or psychologist. Hands on stuff and hi-tech equipment scare me to death. How are you feeling? better I hope. Stay well. terrics

Hi fw, Well it really wasn't cold feet, but I was lucky because the baby is not very sick. His dx ironically is bpd. LOL It stands for broncho-pulmonary dysplasia. It can be a very scary illness, but this baby only has a mild version. I am not qualified to care for a baby with a severe version. thank you for caring. terrics

Hi,
You know, I was offered a job in home health right after I graduated in an allied health field. I turned it down, because I did not feel qualified to do that yet. I'm glad you pick and choose cases when you can. It's important to feel competent in what we do. Much better for our mental health. :)I'm doing better. School is almost done. Two major hurdles left. One is actually a pretty easy hurdle, but I can't do it until I successfully jump over the biggest one. I'm in training for that, so to speak.
And btw, I did read your post about DBT in another thread, and you make some good points. Sorry I didn't get back to you in that thread. I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping up with everything I want to here. And I'll be gone for the rest of the week.
Take care.
gg
