Dream

Posted by Shortelise on March 3, 2005, at 0:40:18

I dreamt that I was looking for my T to tell him he took my Mommy away from me. I felt very sad.

It makes sense, literal sense, because behind the anger I had at my mother was a sense that she loved me, that she was my mommy, that if I could just do the right things, she would be the mommy I needed her to be. That illusion is gone.

Needless to say, I feel a little nuts at the moment, like a sterotype of a psychiatry patient.

On the rare occasions I remember a dream, their symbolism is unbelievably obvious.

Maybe sometimes our subconscious just really wants us to make sure we pay attention to something we should pay attention to, and doesn't bother to dress it up. Have you talked to your therapist honestly about this?

I was just curious about one thing ShortE. You describe having anger from your mother not being there for you, but in your dream your T is also unavailable. Which makes you sad?

I love dreams. Even the ones that aren't as obvious as this one was.

I will talk with my T about this - it wasn't something I was aware of until this dream. It is at the top of my list for next time.

In the dream, I am going to see my T. There is no sense that I will not find him, so it's not that he's unavailable.

In the dream, I am sad because I no longer have my mommy. I feel hurt, because he has taken her from me.

Thanks, Toph.

Last night's Dream

I am in my parents' house, the mafia is outside, waiting for me, maybe will try to shoot me through windows. My mother should have closed all the drapes, but I twice walk into rooms where the drapes are open. I am upset. She is not protecting me.

Is the mafia your therapist too?

Obviously you are missing the mom you wish you had had...and it feels like the world is a dangerous place with or without her. Mom stuff is the hardest stuff to cope with I think. I'll be interested in what your therapist has to say about all of this.

Oh yeah, since you are terminating, or at least cutting back, could the open drapes be the part of you that is still exposed and not protected -- by mom or by therapist? Just wondering.
