Hello, Surely, and welcome.
As I guess you've noticed by now, Babble has an absolute ton of boards and can be more than a bit confusing, but there are lots of nice interesting people, and I've found it to be a place to find support and companionship. The Social board is a particularly good place for that since the topics of conversation are really wide ranging. Dr. Bob monitors the other boards to make sure they stay more or less on topic.
I saw your post on the Newbie board. It must be very frustrating to have such limited access to services. I know I'm very fortunate to live in an area with a lot of therapists of various sorts, though we certainly aren't cutting edge in my area of the country. Are you from the US? (I ask because there are many here who aren't.) There are a fair number of good self help books, although that's not the same thing at all as therapy. I think I saw you mentioned anxiety. Have you seen "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" ? My therapist used it with me, and it did a reasonably good job of bringing my OCD under control.

I went to the Scocial group, and discovered as I was about to post that there was a dropdown menue, and at the bottom of it, there was the psychology group.

No, I have not seen that book. I think my anxiety and depression are the result of having surgery. I'm a craven coward. Strange as it may seem, the cancer doesn't frighten me, but the pain I suffer each time i have surgery is almost more than I can bear. I cannot tolerate drugs, so Demerol is out, and Morphine dose not stop my pain, but it messes badly with my psychological problems. So I guess I live in fear that I will have to have surgery again. I've already had 5 major surgeries, and 6 minor ones. Yeah, I'm a coward.
I am from Minnesota, USA

There is no such thing as e-therapy. Shrinks have this dogma where they believe they have to watch you squirm while you talk, or they cannot treat you. Until such a time as some forward thinking psychiatrist decides that it might be a good idea, our only recourse is group support.
I feel better, now that I am here, but I think I read in one of the posts, that I should probably be in Scocial. I have no idea where I should be, and that hurts. But otherwise, I'm better.

you can go to social or psychology if you post the wrong topic it will just get redirected and a link will be put there for you. don't worry about it, you are fine here. i bounce from students to psychology to social....look through some of the posts and see what people are writing. check out the link in alexandra's post on e-therapy...it looks promising.

I am not even going to ask where I can find it. LOL. After all of the fumbling about I did looking for this group, I think I will just take my time about finding other things. It's actually kinda funny now, but it was stressful at the time.

Ya, there is a fee :-(
Find out about medicare though because I did hear that one person from the US did get some kind of reimbursement through health insurance (though I did get the impression that this is not usual). Can't do it from this end because once exchange rates are factored in it works out more expensive than seeing someone face to face here!
Hello :-)

Surely, I just got back on the puter not too long ago and read this thread to catch up...you got some great help and support...I do know of other places that T's will do therapy online,,,Did you call the Dept of Social Services in your area sometimes the fee is just 2 dollars...I do NOT think you are a coward AT ALL and you are NOT ...Your anxiety and depression is reactive to your surgeries and I do not think I could hold up as you have. We are here for you and you are in our prayers> I just joined, and the people in the Newbee group, suggested that I go to the psychology group. I just need a kind person to talk to, so would anyone care to talk to me?

Hi Surely,
Just wanted to mention that I have been told anesthesia can bring on depression etc. in people who were not depressed previously. So I wonder if that is part of this puzzle too. Not that there is anything you can do about that....but maybe it will help to know there is an explanation? Actually I think I read that any kind of surgery can change things in you emotionally, because the brain feels the trauma to the body.
