It sounds like you're really scared and feeling overwhelmed by your life, the anxiety is driving you to obsess about your breathing. Are you seeing a therapist?

You mentioned a psych, but you're not "getting anywhere" with him/her. What do you mean?

Hi crazychick
I'm also in the uk.
Hmmm, don't know what to suggest, except maybe try this exercise, I remember it from ante-natal classes. I think it helps with hyperventilation. You *have* to really concentrate on your breathing. (Ok this is the opposite of what you want, but it takes the pressure off trying to think of something different. ) Try to take in exactly the right amount of breath that you need. Inhale and exhale exactly the right amount. No more. No less. Visualise the air going into your lungs and going out of your lungs. Visualise the exact amount of air that you need for each breath in a little bubble. Just really concentrate on this for a while. Try to get it exactly right and think of nothing else. I find it really relaxing.
My two daughters are terrible. I'm sure they're far worse than yours.

You're going to be OK! (from one worrier to another.)
You made the comment below: "but i dont need it obviousley if i wasnt breathing proply i would be dead by now? "
I think that's a good start to helping you fix this issue. You recognize that if this WERE a fatal condition, it would have progressed by now! The fact that it stays in the 'livable' level is good -- soon your mind will start to recognize that this is NOT a fatal issue, your breathing IS ok, and that will help you to relax.
Your body will keep breathing, with or without the stress. Keep in mind that you DO keep breathing while you sleep, relax, and even while you stress. You're OK!
Breathing exercises might help, as a previous poster suggested (I think!) I read somewhere that under stress the average person does not exhale fully b/c they keep their chest muscles too constricted; this can lead to hyperventilation b/c the person is taking breaths that are too shallow. Look up "correct way to breathe" on the internet -- there are guidelines about how much longer the exhale should be than the inhalation, and although I'm not sure off the top of my head what they are, I'm sure you could find it by searching a bit.
I'm glad you found out that the chest pain is not indicative of a heart condition (I'm assuming this is true, but you did mention that the ER told you it is just muscular pain.) If the pain continues, I'd recommend getting a follow up with a physician, though -- it sounds like you might be a chronic worrier (like me) and sometimes I can't rest easy about a health concern until I get verification a second time that all is OK.
Good luck. I hope your breathing gets easier. Keep us updated!

I don't know if this will help you, but there is a part of your brain that is in control of your breathing. It's done this since you were born. We can't forget to take a breathe, because this wonderful mechanism does this for us and will force us to take a breath. Now, even when we try "to control" this breathing, it still does it job. Just think - It regulates your breath all the time when your sleeping. Many females tend to breathe from the chest. Remember when you saw you daughter breathe as an infant during sleep. Practice breathing in the manner you saw - slow deep breathing coming in from the belly. You can start by the exhale first. Exhale deeply and empty the belly and count to 8. When you feel all the air is out, count to 4, then inhale counting to 6. Then stop, count to four, then the exhale counting to 8. Visualize a circle starting at the belly - 8 - 4 - 6 - 4 - 8. You may feel different feelings, but welcome it. You are learning to "consciously" slow your breathing. This is your own natural tranquilizer you can carry everywhere you go. It takes practice. Do this at least 5 cycles in a row. Some cultures believe that the spirit is housed in the breath, so they savor each breath slowly and deeply.

This will probably end when you release your anxiety? How can you do that? How how how?
This is the end of the thread.
