Progress

Posted by Poet on July 23, 2004, at 23:59:04

It's been almost two years since I started seeing my therapist. A few weeks ago I posted that she sees progress and I don't, here is what she sees and I can see with a magnifying glass.

I went back to school and completed a writing course, and spoke in front of the class(es) without panicking. Less social anxiety.

I am letting her in. More trust

I am less depressed. Today she told me I smile more and I seem lighter.

Poet,

I'm so proud of you. You spoke in front of a class?? WOW!!!!!!!!!!! You are tapping into that inner core of strength that we tend to push aside due to our fears. You really have accomplished quite a feat!!!!!! Yeah, POET!!!!

May I have your autograph? You're my hero! *smile*

I think those things sound pretty big! But I know that it's frustrating how slow therapy can seem to go. Maybe it's kind of like how kids grow, though. You don't notice a difference day to day, but over time, it adds up to a huge change. And one day you're doing all kinds of things that you never thought you'd do. I hope that you see whatever changes you're wanting to see soon.

Oh, geez. Did you grow up with The Myth of the Perfect Person, too? You know, that camparison person that makes you never good enough?

Poet, I've read most all of your posts since I first joined this board, and you are making real progress. I can see it from here--want to borrow my glasses? You've been through some real tough times and you still bounce back up.

Be proud of yourself--I'm really proud of you, especially for the writing class. Writing classes can be tough, especially when they tap into our emotional needs.
best,
antigua

Thanks everyone, magnified 100 times! (nm)
