This dbt stuff was looking pretty useless, but I think the skills training might be worth a shot. I cannot believe this worked. I came out of work very upset about an ongoing law suit. I had spoken to our lawyer and he gave me a big pain, you know where. He seemed to be trying to lay everything on me. I got into my car which is where I cut most often, and got out my knife and bandages. Then I thought I should give a dbt skill a try. I put the a/c on cold and high and blasted my face and arms, then I put a CD and played it so loud I could not think. I was so cold and so internally deaf that after approx. a half hour I stopped perseverating on cutting and continued work. I find this amazing. ps. The T. and I are at a truce right now. I did confront her and she did lighten up for the one session any way. Terrics

Wow. I am so proud of you!
You decided to try out a different behavior (and that is SOOO hard to do!), and it worked.
Some day I'll tell you about the game I made. You get 5 sanity marbles for trying a new behavior - that's the most you can get in one turn.
Good for you.

Oh no. Don't tell me you can lose your marbles in this game? :)

I'm really happy you found a way to get through this today. You have every right to be very proud of yourself.

i'm so proud! nice job!!
also, i was intrigued to hear about the radio and AC... that's something i've done to myself to shut up the voices in my head and my own self-destructive behaviours. but it was mostly on instinct-- do anything possible to drown out the noise in my head. i'm glad to know it works for other people-- kind of validates what i'm going through. thanks.

hi, just wanted to let you know that the loud music and a/c was also instinct, but it fit a dbt skill. ps i tried it again with different music and it did not work. it has to be a certain rhythm and key. sounds crazy huh? terrics

Not at all crazy!!!
I find I can't walk (for exercise) when I'm angry because the angry thoughts fit perfectly to my stride with a heavy downbeat on my lefthand footfall. :)
