Wow, I went a way on vacation for a few days, and I came back and hardly recognize the place. Granted, I've only been here a short while but I've lurked longer, and I don't recall seeing so much hostility. This no longer feels like a safe place to discuss our most intimate and crucial concerns about therapy.
I certainly hope the support and goodwill returns.

Hey Aphrodite, (love the name by the way!). I will call you Might-y Aphrodite like I did when I was studying mythology in school.
Hey I consider myself kind of new here too though I have read a lot and not posted much either. But like my name, I AM a kind girl! No hostility here with me, so you and I can start an alliance! (I watched Survivor, can you tell?).....
Anyway, I hope this turns out to be a safe place...hope you continue to lurk or post or whatever, but from this newbee I look forward to reading about you or from you!

There are flareups every once in a while on Babble, but in general it is a safe and supportive place with absolutely wonderful people. Or at least I've found that to be true.
It's been pretty quiet here the last few days, too. Have people not been having sessions? Or like mine, have they been not really anything to post home about. :)
Actually it wasn't too bad today. The assigned topic for the day was the jokes I make about my therapist to try to keep from being too attached to him. It turned out ok, I guess. Now, did you hear the joke about my therapist and...
Never mind. :D

I have stayed away for this reason too. I have another T appointment next week - I'll get you back on track!

You'll have to share some of those!
Basically, I just got a little nervous; thanks for explaining. Also, I posted an update about my session on the 6th under an original post and got my feelings hurt because I came back in town to discover no one responded. Of course, I know these things get buried, and it's no reflection on the level of concern, but of course, I can twist anything into, "No one cares." Then, I saw all the bickering and got even more nervous about all the things I have shared. Goodness gracious, I'm a mess.

I'm sorry you're a mess. I am too. I'll be nice if you'll be nice???
Glad you're back,

There was a general lull on the board, which is probably why no one responded. If you point me to your post, I'll be happy to respond. You usually can't shut me up, but I've been a bit cognitively dull lately. Just ask my bosses. :(
They aren't particularly funny jokes about my therapist, I suppose. Just about his shortcomings and the general foolishness of trusting your soul to someone you pay for service. I'm not sure whether it's not more sad than funny, really. How can I trust someone as much as I trust my therapist yet be so untrusting?

Don't feel obligated by my pitiful cry for attention. As for the jokes, I know what you mean. Maybe they are so sad that they have to be funny? So, he thinks you do this to keep him at bay?

Yeah, I missed the hostility, too. Sounds exciting. :) Now I'm gonna go look for it.I think Dinah's right, there are occasional flareups but eventually Dr. Bob "punishes" the "offender" or "offenders" (I've been punished myself, btw) and then the person learns not to do that again (I say that from experience). Or they get really mad and post about it on Admin (also done that :) ).

You know, sometimes threads just get missed in a hail of other }new{ buttons ... expecially if you have a short subject!
... but if no one read it the first time, whatever the reason, POST IT AGAIN!! Who will know? especially if you change the wording (you've probably thought about it yourself since the first post) and, especially, made a nice long subject that sticks out halfway across the page.
Now, if no one says anything the second time, you could reply to your own post with a new subject line like HEY PEOPLE!! I NEED SOME ATTENTION OVER HERE PLEASE!! THANK YOU!! That sort of behavior on other boards for "normals" might not fly, but in Babbleland ... we understand, since we've been there too!!
flb
ps. don't tell dr. bob I told you to post the same stuff twice, okay? teehee.....

in continuation of flb's theme, writing something like 'my sex life' or 'tips on amazing orgasms' is sure to get people reading...!

A-
What I've learned is that there are discussions that for whatever reason get uncomfortable for me. So I choose not to follow the thread. It has nothing to do, usually with the poster, just with the topic. Sometimes it doesn't apply to me, either diagnosis wise, or I don't have the experience to reply. There are ebbs and flows, all the boards are different, which is why I choose to stay here mostly, floating occasionally into social. I figure I have enough squabbling going on here at home with three kids, I don't *have* to jump in here on the board.
Mostly people are passionate about their opinions. And mostly, they rally to cries for support or help, regardless of other discussions going on.
Keep posting. The rewards are worth it.

Hi Aphrodite,
Hope you feel more relaxed about things now. I haven't been here all that long myself, but wanted to say that even though visually some things are right in our faces whether we like it or not, it helps to keep things in perspective to remember how little is really behind it in those cases. It is usually a number of participants that could be counted on one hand or less; and the only reason a thing ends up looking like a big or pervasive deal is that the post titles to isolated threads have to go and take up so much room sometimes!
So, you can usually ferret out the important information that the thing is only being discussed by a very people amongst the huge number of regular posters (and the many thousands of others registered). It may also help to look and see that probably none of the people you're bonding with are involved, or if they were, that what they said probably wasn't mean spirited or questionable in any way if you really look at it.
I think any kind of controversy here simply jumps out more against the back drop of what is a very specialized and controlled environment. If you heard the same conversations going on elsewhere in real life, many of them probably wouldn't even catch your notice as being actually hostile. And if we could see the people's faces and hear their words, we could also often see that many times no one is truly upset, angered or hurting over it.
Occasionally maybe we'll see some things that do seem completely overboard, but they are in the vast minority and not something you have to worry about being a possible underlying theme here. And even when people do involve themselves in a controversy, it may help to remember that while we like the safe and protected environment here, clashes do happen to us and those we know in real life; and in most cases we don't end up having to change our opinion about those people or ourselves. We/they can still be good people, even when we/they are the ones that were 'having a moment' and out of line.
All that is clearly harder to remember 'in writing' like this where all we have are flat visual cues, but it may feel better to give people the benefit of the doubt, like we try to in real life, that nothing truly serious is going on in that situation or with them and their character.
I would say (admittedly knowing *nothing* myself and certainly having no real wisdom on these things!) that you can trust that you'll be fine, because the kinds of people you will probably bond most with are many of the same ones who specifically avoid getting involved in anything 'tricky,' even if they do have a strong opinion about what is being discussed. So I think it will all sift itself out right for you, and you can feel safe!
Best wishes to you and us all! :- )
