What do you pray for?

Posted by DaisyM on March 25, 2004, at 22:57:50

I told my Therapist today that I used to pray for patience, especially with my kids. And then, someone asked me how God would know I had learned patience if he kept testing me to see if I had it but I kept praying for it anyway. My Therapist laughed.

He then got serious and asked me what I prayed for now. I said that was a really hard question...but that mostly I was praying that I would quickly learn whatever lesson I was supposed to be learning so that the testing would stop. And that I prayed a lot for forgiveness, that I would both get it and be able to give it.

He wants me to write more about this. In letter form if I can. A letter to God about what I want/need or a letter back explaining whatever lesson this is. I haven't done it yet. But it seems like a good question to ask here, if you are willing to share: What are you praying for? And, what lessons are you learning by the current challenges in your life? I know these are really broad, big questions so please accept my apology if this feels *too* personal.

Believe it or not everynight I pray for everyone on this board and a few other mental health boards...I pray for those who do not have puters and are isolated and in pain of any kind..I kind of say help everyone. Sometimes I pray for me like health and to get out of my hellhouse ..Silly as heck but I pray for my T that God sets his sights on whatever will make him happiest and he is happy...and I do tell God I wish/hope that would be me..A lot of times I pray to NOT wake up. I pray besically for the suffering.. What have I learned,...that it is all not in my hands but God and his time and that I lack patience at times ..I wish I could be the wellness angel cause everyone would be well

I don't really pray to God, per se, since I don't think I believe. But I am religious in my own way, and I send out good energy to people a lot, if that makes any sense. So, I guess I pray often that everyone in the world is ok, not suffering, if only for just that moment, or that evening. And I pray that I'll be able to make the best of my life for the sake of the rest of the world. And to have clarity. And to not cause any harm.

Fallen, that is so sweet. Thank you for praying for us. I think most of us could use any prayers that come our way. And I'm gonna add you all to my list as well.

It completely depends on my mood. I often pray that I die soon cause I have had enough of this. On a good day however I pray that I learn what I am supposed to be doing here on this earth. I pray that I get better and God tells me to take children into my home. And I pray for an answer as to where I should live and what other career I could have. I also pray that I may ease someone elses pain. I'm in a good mood today.
I'd like to hear others' answers. terrics

I was hesitant to answer this because I thought people might be offended by this, but since you already said it, I will go ahead! I also pray to die soon because I don't know what else would really help me; I am not even really sure that God is listening anyway, though. I don't usually pray for anything else.

I doubt anyone would be offended. I hope you can find something else you might want in your life. Although on the bad days I completely understand. I don't know what I would do without the up days. I am going to pray for you. It must be very disheartening to always feel depressed. I am guessing that is how it is for you. Keep posting. I find it very comforting here. terrics

I pray for a variety of stuff depending on my day and whatever's going on in the world. Some of the usuals: I pray for an end to the war and ALL wars; you know whirled peas. I also pray for my family's wellbeing and health, for those suffering physical or mental illnesses or who feel lonely and scared. I pray for the safety of all who travel (especially when I am travelling), and for God to help me use what he has given me to somehow touch others in a way that causes a ripple effect across the land. Okay, that's a bit grandiose, but I really treasure those moments of real connection and learning from others.

Good thought-inducing topic.

God and you are doing a pretty good job on this one, gg! You're going to make a wonderful therapist.

As I consider myself an overtly religious person, but I don't really pray. Well, untrue. I'm enormously comfortable with prayers of praise and thanksgiving, but I rarely if ever pray prayers of supplication.

When I pray I:

Thank God for sending His Son to die on the cross for our sins.

I tell Him how much I love him, and thank Him for everything He has provided me with

Ask that He watches over and takes care of my loved ones, especially my grandma (including my dear Babblers)

Ask that He watch over my babies (cats)

Ask that He will help my mental state improve, especially my OCD.

That He will help my therapist to help me

Yes there is something else I want in life... Not to need anyone. I hate being needy. I just want to be able to accept the fact that nobody will ever love me or care about me and live with it without feeling so empty. I want to be numb so I can go through the motions of living without having to feel. But then again, it would probably be easier if I could just die instead.

I'm sorry that the world has shown itself to be such an uncaring place to you. There ARE people who will care about you. YOU need to care enough about yourself to find them.
