Yes, set backs are okay. And you ARE making forward progress. Look at how well you are doing with trusting!
I'm so glad he's working with you on the trust issue - it's good of him to share those letters with you. And I think it's fantastic to share your paintings with him. I did the same with my pdoc.
Good work, JYL. And glad you are feeling better.

That sounds great.
It is important to know what kinds of things are in your file. My therapist used to read her weekly summaries to me occasionally (for instance, if I wanted to know her specific reaction to something). It was comforting to know that she had nothing to hide.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could just move forward, without the setbacks? But it doesn't work that way. We probably appreciate the forward progress more this way.
Forward Ho!

Hi Justyourlaugh,
Setbacks can be difficult to handle if you don't see that you are making forward progress. I guess it's important to look at and remember what progress you are making, and to keep that in the forefront of your mind when you find times where it seems like things are going downhill.
I've had a few times, when I was hospitalized again, or when I was feeling suicidal, that I thought I was going nowhere. Sometimes it took me quite a while to realize that even in the hospital, I was getting better. I admit that I still have a very long way to go. I'll probably be in therapy for many years, but I'm still getting better. Even in the plateaus, where it doesn't look like I'm getting better, I am. And you are too. It's hard, It's work, it's scary sometimes, but you can do it.
Dee.
