Ihave struggled with deppression all my life.
I recently developed chronic back pain.
I was put on percocet to deal with back on short term.
As a result of fear of addiction I stopped taking percocet and began to research subject of pain meds addiction. I now believe I am not addicted and have noticed that while I was on the pain meds my deppression was managable as well as pain. The pychiatrist I sought out wants me to take zoloft. Im sure this medicine is helpful to many but I do not believe it is non addicting or harmless. The side effects of zoloft far out weigh the side effects of ultram (what I am taking now). (The shrink missed the major drug interation of pain meds and ssri drugs)I obviously am at risk to continue the zoloft and ultram mix. So she is taking me off the zoloft to try something else. My beef? What is wrong with me continuing on the pain meds for pain and depression? Even just depression? I also have fibromyalgia wHich the pain meds help me to cope with. I believe I will have a hard time finding a physician in the midwest that is will to see my point of view. The docs seem hell bent on hooking you on the psych drugs. Theyre desire to avoid stigma associated with opiate use seems hypocritical. I feel there is no where to turn. If I go to them for help they will put me on these ssris or moas or something like this.

Drugs/meds are not good or bad. They are just chemicals with safe and approprate uses or
unsafe uses.

I didn't know that narcotic (sp?) pain drugs could help with depression.....maybe I should give it a try!
