and where are the research outputs of your researchers?
where are the journals?
hidden behind pay-walls so that the people don't notice that there is no research output of the university.
i mean there are webpages of 'stuff' (that was brought for $1) where people read 'articles' by 'journalists' -- right?
read 'academic articles' by 'researchers' -- right?
there's a real high quality level of 'debate' -- right?
so des gorman can tell us what the medical school thinks.
and the new zealander of the year can tell us when she immigrated to nzl via england from south africa
etc...
they are going to get rid of 'english' says an australian. they are going to rebrand it 'language arts'. then they will replace 'english' with wheiorheughjfkf. and then our official language will become weiorhekgjhfhjkgj and all the laws will be written in ieryeighjfdkghsdilfjk and we will get to processing your documents in weireighfjkhdkl and ieryeighjfkj will process your documents and ridireoikghfk. riewhirkgh kdhriehtgjfdh kljriwoekjhfjkdfhj lkdjriehjkdhdlkrjl ierhrekjhfgjdkfhljaksdj

American men and Australian men are very similar on the battlefield. There is a high percentage anti social acting out.
An abandoned humvee thing with a Punisher symbol on the side. Casual cruelty.
John Bolton has the temerity to appear on camera.
I'm going out for a very long walk.

That's why we send them to someplace else. I would imagine.
Leave us all your worldly goods and go die someplace else. Thanks very much. Very honorable you are. Etc etc.

I mean, I would suppose that's why Helen Clarke (former Prime Minister of New Zealand) feels it's a moral imperative to bring democracy to the people of Afghanistan -- rather than bringing democracy to the people of New Zealand.
I couldn't tell if the people of Afghanistan were begging to be on the repatriation flights... Or if they were shaking their fists at them on their way out.
I wonder about the people who are being processed as 'refugees' from there. I wonder what their ties are etc. If it is the women and children dependents of the soldiers... Or what... Quite what is going on with that.
I would imagine those with the best cases are those who the soldiers were happy to flee from. They might well have families back home...
I don't know. I imagine it is more about that than about carpenters and cleaners.
I would also imagine that getting a bunch of Afghanistan women and children out...
Well...
I keep thinking about how it's in the news all the time about some 'school' of girls being taken hostage by armed men in South America. Nigeria or wherever. For a ransom to be paid by their parents for their return to the school, apparently.
Why would the parents send their kids to those kinds of schools? It doesn't make any sense at all...
When they say women of age 10 cannot go to 'school' anymore... I wonder what kinds of schools they had in mind.
Hard to know.
We don't have schools anymore.
We don't grade the work anymore.
Not by international standards. It's what keeps our GDP so low.

It just didn't seem very diplomatic of Judith Collins.
Why does the Western World have such a very hard time understanding that the Prime Minister voluntarily left the country. He didn't want to be Prime Minister anymore. He only wanted to be Prime Minister because of the continued hand-outs of the USA government.
Biden went on about all the money the USA poured into Afganastan. Giving them a air force. But the Afganastan troops were...
Mercenaries.
That's what you call people who fight for the highest bidder? Right? And then when the money stops and people...
Fight for what they believe in.
Or flee.
They chose to flee.
So.
What you going to do?
I think Biden is being the 'bigger man' (not saying that anybody else is not as big as him). I mean to say I think he is being 'big'. He is doing the right thing. There never was a good time to withdraw the troops. The best time likely was promptly after they got Bin Laden.

There is book, Blood Meridian, a fictionalized account of the 'opening' of the southwest to the US. It tells me all I ever needed to know of what psychopaths can get up to when free of the constraint.
People I know with family in Mexico now fly rather than drive to avoid cartels on the roads. It's a shame.

They were quick to send in the mounted police there.
The federal government wasted its golden opportunity by being too clever by half and too rude to Pfiser. The Liberal Party is full of attack dogs and culture warriors. I've never liked them, but they are so much worse now.

Not much of this from the Prosperity Gospel of our PM.
For I was an hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. yeah.
you learn everything you need to know about a person when you see how they treat those who they think they can treat however they want (with impunity).
that's where people don't get privacy, eh. in how they treat those who they think... they can get away with treating badly.
you have to particularly watch out for the kinds of people who arrange for puppies (say) to be abused and / or kept in conditions of deprivation... so that they can themselves ride in on a big white horse and have for themselves something that is forever adoring and grateful.
those are the worst of the offenders, i think.
people who surround themselves with loyal... attack dogs. who will die for them out of devotion. because of the early circumstances they set up for deprivation and abuse.
there is an awful lot of that about in the world.
people who like to work with / 'help' (helping me helping me helping me help myself to you) people they perceive to be vulnerable.
__
i didn't realise that the troops being withdrawn from Afghanastan was something that was promised to happen, to a timeline. 20 years ago.
they are saying, now, that the troops left and the Taliban took control much earlier than they had supposed...
but the troops are late -- right?
The withdrawal of all US troops.. did not occur by the deadline.
And people have had years to plan their out.
__
NZL just offloaded a 'family' of 16, apparently, only some of which had visas.
Harboring unlawful's already..
Sigh.
Not a fit for purpose, purpose built quarantine facility in the entire country.

It depends who they are...
Apparently they are relatives of a plasterer already here.
We gave him a visa to work as a plasterer.. And we gave a visa to some of his family members. Maybe his wife and his 7 year old and 5 year old...
But they packed a few more on the plane than that.
His father, by the seems of it.
Maybe New Zealand thought his plasterers salary would stretch to support a family of 16?
Likely there is little to no thought. Actually.

Another 20 years of nothing learned, although good money for the arms industry. Our PM remarked when asked if it had been worth it 'Freedom is always worth fighting for', to which the father of a soldier killed replied 'B*llsh*t!' Every year it is as if we grow a little more stupid and ignorant, but maybe it is me getting older and still being able to remember.
Our PM also said of the Quad (USA, Japan, Australia, India) that it was the dawn of freedom for the Indo Pacific region. So much dawn, so little light.

yeah.
i remember what i was doing when i learned that the twin towers had been driven into by an airplane. i arrived for a dbt group session. apparently i was a "borderline personality" black and white thinker who needed to learn a little mindfulness acceptance...
or my therapists did. while Bush proclaimed "whoever is not for us is against us"
and my first question was:
why?
was it political?
(i mean... was it an accident? engineering failure? navigation problems? political statement about USA international trade policies? uh...)
m'kay.
the scope of a promise never to forget. 20 years later. indeed.
my promise never to forget was like... closer to 40 years ago.
am i forgiven yet?

okay so fine... the fake news tells me Jacinda Ardern was a student at Arizona State when she learned about the twin towers.
So... She got a student exchange to Arizona State at some point during her con-munucations Degree from the University of Waikato... And that was where she was when she learned...
And she remembered the trauma-bonding feel-good vibes. How the squabbling and fighting etc stopped and the people paused. And came together. And that experience... Served her well when she was able to speak out as leader of NZ in response to our 'terrorist attack' on the mosque by a lone gunman where 30 ish were shot.
But then a guy grabs a knife from the knife section of the supermarket and slashes 6 before he's shot by his surveillance tail within 90 seconds. And they'd been following him for months... Because they were convinced he was a xxxx member of xxxx extremist group.... Becauase they convinced him that he needed to be a threat of being topped back home before we would consider him for asylum status... And being a member of xxx etremist group would have the people back home want to persecute him... So he was basically compiling a case whereby... Not only would be be persecuted back home but he would be persecuted here...
And by the time he realised things were worse here than they were back home...
(serves you right for seeking asylum from NZ you thought this was a developed nation f*ck*ng hahahahahhahahhahaaha)
We decided we quite liked to abuse him as the terrorist we made him to be... So he had to stay here until the police decided to shoot him dead. What heroes. MMm yeah.
Sigh.
Because nobody was allowed to help him. Because nobody is allowed to help anyone in NZ.

and in other news:
how much money in fees did NZL make off of offering 'air traffic control' and similar courses to international students?
i get that it thought that it was justified in screwing a bunch of people who were applying for corrupt reasons... i get that. i do. but it wasn't capable of distinguishing whether people were applying for legit vs corrupt reasons. it just treated everyone as criminals... which (they believe) is lisence for them to exploit them.
and in other news:
person comes into nzl and dogs go into quarantine. one dog dies in quarantine. when she goes to pick up the other dog they say she owes them $10,000 for an autopsy showing the dog died of cancer. the other dog won't be released until she pays for the autopsy they did that shows the dog died of cancer.
that's not keeping hostages.
fake news. i know.
and in other news:
teenager dies of 'suspected heart attack' and prime minister says it is 'unrelated to vaccination' BEFORE AN AUTOPSY HAS BEEN PERFORMED.
ffs.
singing to the choir jacinda. did not realise you had the power to sing cause of death *before an investigation*.
no vaccine related harms in nzl.

I do hear myself go 'what happened? was it political? was it a response to trade-sanctions?'
on the one hand...
And then go... The solution to the problem that is NZL is... To complain to the UN so they impose... Trade sanctions?
on the other hand...
What do / what can you do? Other than imposing trade-sanctions?
We won't do business with you anymore because of refusal to comply with...
