Will this combo cause serotonin syndrome? I know Geodon has some serotonin-reuptake properties. I'm taking Parnate and am considering Geodon. I called Walgreen's and the pharmacist said she didn't see any interaction. However, I don't trust modern databases when it comes to old MAOI's. I've heard a lot of erroneous or outdated information from a host of sources.

In reply to irreversible MAOI + Geodon safe?, posted by James H on April 29, 2011, at 16:48:05
based on binding, I would say yes, it should actually prevent 5ht syndrome. Of course, i haven't seen any actual testing, so it isn't as confirmed to be safe as something like nortriptyline that has human in vivo testing.

I had been on Nardil and Geodon for about a month without sequalae (untoward consequences). I discontinued Geodon for lack of efficacy. It is interesting that Geodon might reduce the risk of serotonin syndrome. What are the mechanisms by which this may occur (even if theoretical)?
Thanks.
