I found this interesting as evidently cymbalta has been fighting to have cymbalta approved for chronic pain arthritis and musculo skeltal. Why? Patent will expire in a few years. And the FDA has approved it at 60mg. Phillipa

Hmmm. My doc says it mostly successful with nerve pain, not osteoarthritis. He prescribes it often, but is not sure how much it would help me. An easy sideways switch at any rate.
So, I wonder how many of the 7% arthritis patients continue their scrip and get real relief?
Thanks for the link, Phillipa :)

Your're welcome FB. I had gotten a link from another site in my e-mail and decided to google it and boy is all over the net. I just found it interesting. Thanks for responding. Love Phillipa

It really PISSES me off when drug companies do that. ANYTHING to extend a patent. Ugh, makes me sick.

FB, I hope you will still try Cymbalta even if your doctor isn't sure if it will help you. Because it could help you and it would be a shame if you didn't have a chance to try it.

I expect we will. He didn't anticipate the switch to be difficult on me. Maybe next visit. (Next week.)
Thanks for your support :)

Phillipa, you had some pain relief from cymbalta if I'm remembering correctly. And was it that you didn't realize it until it was withdrawn?
If so, I know you're extra-sensitive to ad's, how were your own side effects?
I find pristiq to be so transparent as I wonder what it does (until I forget a dose!). I have had other ad's make me very fuzzy-headed :(

First time I took it no problems no side effects. It was new then and the pdoc was the only one at the beach where we were living so he would give me a month's supply each time I visited. Then found babble and seriously took to heart a poster's response and that this is all the med would do nothing. But I don't feel I was depressed at the time just the typical anxiety for me. But after three months figured stop and went from 60mg to 30mg no withdrawal. But coming here kind of scared me so kind of went slow on the last 30mg. No withdrawal but was on a lot more benzos than now for sure. Used to lift weights then, walk 5 miles daily on the beach, then ride about 20 miles on my bike daily. I don't remember what I switched to probably luvox as trust it. But when off the cymbalta I had back pain seriously. So I'd also say try it as it's similar to pristiq? SNRI maybe different ratio but you will never know if you don't try you can always stop the med. Love Phillipa

Is it possible that you had the back pain from your activities? Lifting weights can give you back pain if you don't do it right. How long until the back pain went away? Did you take anything for the pain?

Thanks Phillipa, I thought that was the case.
I used to run. I think it kept depression at bay. Completely contraindicated now due to back :( Walking is easier on the body long term, but never gives me the high from running.
Yes, I'm almost certain that I'll be on Cymbalta very soon. You know how difficult med switches are for me to consider, but I'm off the fence now, ready to start next week if I get a green light. (That last sentence is very
Regan-esque. He said once that 'we've got the monkey on our back, so now we'll take the ball and run with it.)Rainy season has started here. I feel very achy--lots of tiny ones, hands, feet, legs....

FB and the cold has arrived here so more aches and pains also. I know you can do it with the cymbalta. It used to also come in 20 capsules. Might be best to start low and work up to wherever you feel the best. Love Phillipa ps you ran also awesome I miss it so and it so does work!!!!

No backpain from the weights as I'd lifted for many years and trainers were always available. These weights were not free weights. Mostly Nautilus when lifted. Problem was I developed muscle very quickly. Legs bulked up but with the pulleys arms firmed also. Phillipa

Well now, weren't you buff in your younger years.
What happened to the muscle you developed?

Phillipa, my pdoc called to tell me exactly what you posted. I felt a smidge of pride when I told him I knew because one of my 'online friends', as I refer to babble with him, told me. : )
We start Friday. Alternating nights I take pristiq, then stick with cymbalta. We start at 30mg and see how I tolerate it.
60mg he says is the target for depression, 90-120 for pain. He doesn't feel the need to be held to that though. Thanks!

Yes, I think that women have a hard time keeping their arms toned. Most have what I like to call "under arm dingle dangle"!

Lack of testosterone after menopause. So technically if I start with weights again since on bio estrogren/progesterone/testosterone should help build muscles in arms again. No facial hair growth. Actually hair growth as a whole has slowed down also. Phillipa

Here, where we are apparently less subtle, it's called 'bingo wings'.
