BabbleFest 2006 question

Posted by Dinah on June 6, 2005, at 7:01:18

Dr. Bob, I think taking it on the road is a great idea. And Toronto sounds wonderful.

But is a conference a good time to try to meet us? Would you be too busy with conference events and spending time with colleagues?

A Babble party wouldn't be the same without your being able to participate substantially.

Since his univ would pay for his ticket & hotel...I'm guessing that the conference seems like the best plan for him. Buuuuut - why should HE get a free ticket??? Heck, he's got a doctor's salary.

"Buuuuut - why should HE get a free ticket??? "

Do you know how much money a site like this costs to run a month? And it allc omes out of Dr Bobs own pocket..

So I think he'd deserve a free ticket - if it wasn't for him, none of us would know each other to want to meet!!!

I'm curious now. Does it? Does he get reimbursed, monetarily or otherwise? Just curious...

I shouldn't think that Dr Bob is reimbursed by anyone, since the site is not associated with the University of Chicago. And there aren't any advertiser's links THANK HEAVENS!!!! so there's no money coming from that, either.

I shouldn't think so either, but I've made assumptions in the past that were wrong. He might at least be able to write it off as a business expense, since it's used for research. Or maybe others help him fund it. I don't know... Like I said, it just got my curiosity up.

It was discussed here quite some time ago (no idea when.. probbly a few years) when the research project ended..

Dr Bob said then that he paid for it..

You know, I got to thinking later, that still doesn't mean that he couldn't expense it. It could probably be argued as a business cost for him, even if he's not actively researching through it anymore. It doesn't really matter to me, I just got to wondering after reading this thread.

So how'd it go..... anyway.....

Like
1. Who'd ya' meet that was a big surprise?
2. Who came the farthest to Chicago?
3. Any other news?
4. What was your favorite event?
5. Did you go shopping on Michigan avenue?

That's a good question. I think I could probably participate as substantially as I did this time. Would you be interested in meeting some of my colleagues? Or attending some conference events? :-)

Me 6...and Dr. Bob, if you could give folks a tour of the excellent Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (Clarke Inst.) in Toronto, I think people will really enjoy it. They do world-reknowned research and have many on-going trials with all these new meds and stuff, that people could participate in.(i.e. sign up and return at a latter date if they wished.)

But, its not hugely likely..

Though, my best mate does live only an hour or so outside Toronto, so maybe another visit to her would be in order..

but then, in the perfect world, I wouldn't be able to fly next June *grins*
