So I got some Gatorade for working out and it contains alot of sodium. I got cravings for it now. Go figure.

You're just in the early stages? I am in the final stages (stage 4 salt addiction).

I read that lithium chloride (LiCl) has been used as a salt (NaCl) substitute. The potassium chloride (KCl) is still used. Of course, such substitution only works if the deciding factor is the salty taste, because these minerals play very different roles in the body, although I think lithium can partially substitute for sodium.
They are all electrolytes, and maintaining the right balance of them (and others) is crucual. Sometimes I wonder whether, and/or how much, electrolyte imbalances may be involved in mental health issues.

Yeah, we got very soft water here. When I work out I use an electrolyte powder now and go figure, I dont feel the need to drink excessive amounts of water anymore. And I can actually sleep after I work out. Before I was up for many hours before I could.
With the unbalanced gatorade, I was very lethargic. Got something better now from Bulk. It still has low Magnesium, so I add some.
Thinking about potassiumbicarbonate to add, too.
There are so many variables that can affect mental health. I dont think is good practice to put people on meds before a thorough check of everything. It should matter to society because it could be the difference between ability and disability.

You mean high pH?

Low Ph. Almost no minerals in it.

I read on a bag of Na2CO3*10H2O, soda crystals, that it could be used to "soften" water. Dissolving this substance in water raises the pH. That's why I thought you meant high pH.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_softening
"... water softening process involving replacement of calcium ions in water with sodium ions ...".Apparently some minerals, such as calcium (Ca) are considered "hardening" and others, such as sodium (Na) are considered "softening", and apparently the term is related to the formation of insoluble deposits by hard water.

As far as I am informed hardening chalk consists mostly of Magnesium and Calcium. Soft water is good for your washing machine, but nit so great for health. People have died during marathons because of soft water out of the faucet.

>When I was in the hospital for three weeks, they gave me a potassium supplement every day. I did *extremely* well in the hospital, for a number of reasons probably, and I have been thinking of supplementing with potassium at home. But, I understand too much of this can mess things up. I asked the nurse in the hospital if I should supplement at home with it, but she sort of gave me an ambivalent answer. So....I got a bottle of potassium anyways, and have tried it on and off. No *major* noticeable effects.

Ah yeah, there are alkaline minerals and acidic ones. I would assume you lose both during exercise.

Maybe it was the 'protective coat' that hospital gave you?

I once came out of a hospital and I missed the way people treated eachother there very much. Very considerate. It was a hospital that put almost no one on meds.
