I made the embarrassing mistake of smoking crack cocaine yesterday. Yes, I know, it was stupid. I'm not looking for any tsk-tsks here. But I feel absolutely horrid today -- depressed, tired, jittery. Did I do permanent brain damage or introduce other side-effects from this one-time evening?
Feeling sad and hopeless. I sometimes think the only way out of this hell would be to remove myself from the equation. I am tired of missing work, sobbing in the shower, distracted from my life.

>It does seem like you "introduced .. side-effects", unless you sometimes feel this way without cocaine. It sounds like a kind of withdrawal syndrome to me.

I wouldn't worry too much about one time use (in terms of long term damage). It does sound like you're experiencing a relatively normal 'crash' response. If you're feeling actively suicidal then go to the hospital.
If you can make it on your own, you will recover. Your brain needs time to resynthesize the neurotransmitters that were rapidly released. If you are not feeling better within a week, then again, I would see a doctor.
The real question (as mentioned) was when you said:
"I am tired of missing work, sobbing in the shower, distracted from my life."
Was any of this happening before using? Or has it only happened afterwards?
If you can get your hands on the antihistamine "chlorpheniramine", it can help reduce withdrawal symptoms.

You've been through this before and will get through it again.
People look for relief.

> Was any of this happening before using? Or has it only happened afterwards?Yes. I've had a cocaine addiction for years, and I'm finally seeking treatment. (I just made arrangements for an in-patient rehab.). But this was the first time I've ever smoked crack cocaine -- I've only done insufflation -- and I'm wondering if it would have a disproportionately negative effect.
I know how my body responds to powered cocaine -- a few days of feeling down but then returning to a calmer, healthier feeling. But this feels "different," somehow. Is it just psychological?

we're gonna keep secret, but at a party, i went into a room, this was years ago, i was with alot of people that told me they cared about me, treated me nice, but they we're meth addicts. They litterly aasked me whats wrong with you, you don't seem like the rest of us, because....basically i was naieve to all what they were doing, told them i had some issues, and feel left out, and that....they basically figured out i was home-kid. That had no idea where he was, so they actually had some compassion and listened, and they said this will get you going. They told me to drink lots of water, it was methamphetamine. And yes, similr to what you described. They screwed me over, deprivated me of money stole my car. But, crackvsmeth i got over it, it has days or even weeks to psycholoically return back to normal. Because, m-amphetamine is so intense, the dirty form and potent form. You will get over it, but that thought will always sometime pop in you head, to go back and do it. No matter how much you suppress it, it leads it back. Make a solid choice, in belief system, not disapline, that it's bad, and need to quit. But the expereince is the thing, it stays in your memory of how it felt, and you want to go back to it.
So....yes this is gonna pass, i did more intense and was naive with these people i was around. It takes a while to get out.
You may ask about cocaine, alternatives, such as wellbutrin, yes they use it for cocaine depedency. Or a less potent dopamine reptake inhiitor, cocaine is pure DRI, intense. Wellbutrin, and just research lesser dopamine reuptake inhibitors, because they would help in suppressing the need for use

Your rambles are fine. I think it's beneficial to hear about the experiences of others.

Open up to your psychiatrist in Rehab. If you want to recover, you need to stop using first and foremost. Getting high is not "normal". It stops depression, but it doesn't replace it with being normal, it replaces it with being high. When are you going to rehab?

yes, you are correct, but im trying to argue or make a 2 way arguement, it is a triple reuptake inihibtor, but mainly it's dopamine. It's effects on dopamine are very much, serotonin, norephinerhpine yes that gives the kick and sunshine feel to it
methamphetamine unlike amphetamine works on serotonin, and dopamine and norephinrphrine but its much more intense and wears you down. The prescription form, desoxyn, i've read posters here taking it, say its mild low side effects compared to dextroamphetamine. Yet the street form, which basically called 'ice' it is so intense, its worse than cocaine addiction, your face changes into a meth face from chronic usage, not so much with cocaine. It's wierd that hte prescoption desoxyn effects are much diffrent than the street form, which is a rush of power and speed, and lasts for hours. Then there's the come down, people will continue to use it and that's why methamphtamine is nuerotoxic, because after it wears off, street users either do 2 thing, take a tranquilizer nd go to sleep, or take more hits and sty up for days.
It's yea....its the belief you have program into your head, not by disapline saying no im gonna do that, because eventually you will give in to it, no matter much disapline.
anyways, that's just my say this is a direct scientifc study of properties of cocaine
