Low-dose aspirin (81 mg) might go well with minocycline.

That's just the dose low-dose aspirin is sold as, at least in the US. A regular dose of aspirin, taken daily, is more likely to irritate the stomach, or to thin the blood too much. Minocycline, combined with low-dose aspirin, seems to work well as an anti-inflammatory in people with bipolar disorder.

For me, minocycline produced a significant improvement in my bipolar depression. I stopped taking it when I developed dark pigmentation in my feet and lower legs. I took it for over a year before the condition developed. That's common. I'm glad most of the hyperpigmentation has disappeared.

Hi, Jeroen.
This was recently published by Dr. Robert Post of the NIH:
"The antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) helps depression, anxiety, and irritability, and is effective at treating habit-related behaviors such as trichotillomania (compulsive hair-pulling), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and drug use, including specifically reducing marijuana use in adolescents. A typical dose is 500600 mg capsules, one capsule twice a day for one week, then two capsules in the morning and two in the evening thereafter."
Good luck.

Sorry, Jeroen.
My pasting of the quote was flawed. It should read:
"A typical dose is 500 mg or 600 mg capsules, one capsule twice a day for one week, then two capsules in the morning and two in the evening thereafter."

Scott,
I remember you posting about how much minocycline was helping you. I'm sorry to hear that you can no longer take it. It's so disappointing to find a helpful treatment, and then have to discontinue it because of unpleasant side effects.

If you can, take a step back and catch your breath. It's not easy, but you need to reduce your anxiety and guard against making impulsive decisions. I have always been impatient, and it has caused me to make some bad decisions.
I don't have my notes, but I think I was taking 200 mg/day of minocycline. Minocycline might help depression by reducing brain inflammation.
As long as you don't have side effects, I think you should raise the dosage to 100 mg twice a day. I don't think it is necessary to titrate gradually. Minocycline is often started as a single 200 mg dose (loading dose) followed by 100 mg twice a day.
I have become interested in a drug called Caplyta (lumateperone). It is used as an antipsychotic, but acts to decrease glutamate activity. It is also a potent 5-HT2a receptor antagonist. There is some D2 antagonism, but it does not bind as strongly.

Error: "decrease" should be "increase".
"I have become interested in a drug called Caplyta (lumateperone). It is used as an antipsychotic, but acts to INCREASE glutamate activity."
Sorry.
Blocking D1 receptors results in the stimulation of glutamatergic tracts.
In addition, lumateperone is being studied as a treatment for bipolar depression.
