So...you're looking for a medication that helps with anxiety while increasing your motivation? I know I've read many of your posts, but I can't remember what you've already tried. Prozac helped my anxiety and also made it easy to actually get out of the house and go to the gym. Lexapro had a similar effect for me. Unfortunately, I think SSRIs don' work for me anymore, and I'm about to try Nardil. I have high hopes for it. For a while, I took Lexapro, Klonopin, and Ritalin, which helped a lot. I think the Klonopin took care of my anxiety, Lexapro took care of the depression, and Ritalin gave me some much-needed energy. Maybe a similar combination would help you?

Neuroleptics can sometimes make anxiety worse. there's akathisia, of course, but there's also some indication that heavy duty D2 blocking can induce panic attacks and such. true story...I read an abstract...apparently, xanx xr can help (note the sarcasm).

personally, I'd see about slowly tapering one of the tranquilizers while introducing somethings...anything...relatively non-toxic to help mood and anxiety.

Since you're already on zyprexa, prozac is a very good idea, I think. Here in the US, there's symbyax, which is fixed amounts of prozac+zyprexa, in one capsule. Problem there is...

prozac and I think most other antidepressants, boosts tranquilizer levels. Not always a big deal, but...with 2 high dose neuroleptics on board, could (I would think...possibly...) trigger EPS, dysphoria, more sedation, etc. Just a random thought.

I'm thinking about asking my shrink about mirapex. its been used in both bipolar i and schizophrenia. my depression gets so bad sometimes that its as if my brain and body just shut down. uppers only helped so much, and they're not about to give me those at this clinic, so...mirapex is looking like a possibly, maybe, if dude'll go for it...somewhat viable option. maybe you could try that? it might cut down on any Parkinsonism and such, if you have any of that going (I don't know if you do or not, clearly).

other than that...no real ideas, sorry. oh wait...modafanil, nuvigil. there again, drug-drug interactions are more of an issue than with the old school stimulants, but...it is what it is.

I agree that Nardil offers both antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. When it worked for me, I also found Nardil to be energizing and motivating. I may end up taking it again, hoping that it will work better in combination with the other drugs I'm currently taking. Right now, I am giving my system time to recover from the negative reaction I experienced from taking Trintellix.

Hi Scott,

i have had a bad experience with Nardil. It kicked off mental illness for me or so it seems. First ever psychotic episode.

I like the sounds of you going back on Nardil. Is this still your plan? Will you add Saphris or another antipsychotic? Hang in there.

Regards,
Lamdage

Before Nardil i was just a little depressed and anxious. Now apparently full blown mental illness?

I am sorry that Nardil was so destructive for you. It happens. I became psychotic on Nardil twice. Antipsychotics were used to treat the reactions. Unfortunately, this shock to the system left me in a more severe depression with greater treatment resistance. I think taking Abilify offered me some protection against having a manic reaction to Nardil over the last 15 years. Were you taking any antipsychotics when you had your psychotic reaction to Nardil?

Trintellix really changed my system in some way. I discontinued it almost two weeks ago because I suffered a bad reaction to it, which included a profound alteration in cognition. It left me dazed and confused. It was a zombie-like brain fog. I was also more depressed. Some dysphoria and depersonalization. I couldn't function. I still experience after-effects post-discontinuation. It is not pleasant. I feel that I should wait until they completely disappear and give the brain time to settle. I might wait another two weeks before adding back a low dosage of Effexor.

I was takin antipsychotics on and off. However i would always need a higher AP dosage on Nardil as opposed to off Nardil. That obviously would be not feasible right now.

I thought you wanted to go back to Nardil?

There was a time where i was fine on Nardil with little or no psychosis. I took it with Wellbutrin and a bunch of Serotonin, Dopamine and Noradrenaline boosting Supplements. When i stopped the supplements i had the most severe psychosis.

selegiline is known to help motivation, not sure about anxiety, nardil and marplan help in that area, but if you looking more for motivational things rather than antidepressant, crude and blunt answer would be a stimulant and benzo, like dexamyl, or ativan and d-amphetamine, or methylphenidate, that's crude way of doing it, outdated 1950s technology - medically something like Effexor and Remeron - california rocket fuel, could help with that, because remeron good for anxiety, combined with venlafaxine should give a boost to be able to function, and feel content

abilify is a choice, it helps - well from what i've read it's a slight D2 agonist, which gives a little boost, while at the same time acting stabilizing for mood, still not so sure for anxiety

the psych drugs are pretty much the same as they were back in the day. they even brought back Benzedrine...I think its called Evekeo now, or something.

"antidepressants" are sort of like the combo pills they had that were part amphetamine, part neuroleptic. others were part neuroleptic, part sedative. point is...

antidepressants are basically emotional pain killers. i suppose maybe wellbutrin is something of an exception, but there again...chemically, its alot like Tenuate, a once popular diet pill, but there is a degree of apathy involved, even with Wellbutrin.

i dunno. mirapex, maybe? its supposed to help negative symptoms. its a cns drug, i think its used in Parkinson's, but...yeah...basically a 21st century stimulant.

it really is. if you'll notice...lots of people on "antidepressants" are given sedatives. others (I'm guessing with accomodating doctors..) are given stimulants, perhaps wellbutrin. the add on drugs help throw the balance in the desired direction, hopefully (there's of course...lots of failures and straight up horror stories coming out of psychiatry...).

shrinks know that ssri and ssnri drugs, in particular, make people more docile and Managable. that's why they're used in anger management and sometimes in oppositional defiant disorder. I'm thinking it might also explain why they're used so frequently in women.

Why not Clomipramine ("Anafranil")?

It's a very powerful SRI.
It's a powerful NRI.

It has quite interesting characteristics: 5HT-2A/2C antagonism, moderate H1-antihistamine, anticholinergic, FIASMA, antagonist of the alpha1-adrenergic receptor...

Worth a try.

Does it necessarily induce sexual side effects?
