In over 20 years participating with psychobabble, I cannot recall anyone ever praising buspar as the magic bullet they were hoping for. Once in a while it maybe is helpful as an add-on, but I just have not seen it justify its place on the market. Surely someone in the world likes it very much but I have never heard of them. There are a couple clinical studies that make it appear to be a lot better than it actually is in the real world.

It can work sometimes as the anti-anxiety med it was intended to be, but then, I know of a handful of herbs, any one of them, way better than buspar.

It worked very well for me regarding anxiety and concentration but the downside was irrtability, sometimes intens.

As a counterpoint to this, it is often severely underdosed, and is one of these very weird medications like abilify that has totally different effects (almost different drugs) at different dosage levels. I've taken upwards of 120mg of it per day during a time when we were trying to treat generalized social anxiety and motivation. I liked it. Doctor is not comfortable with me trying it again due to being on high dose MAOI but again, buspar at 5-10mg b.i.d. is a totally different deal than buspar at say 45-60 b.i.d.

Wish I could remember a bit more about my experience. Oh, I remember--part of the hope was that it would help stimulate oxytocin release for a pro-social mood-boosting, pro libido effect.
