"The drugs involved in the study are known as anticholinergics"
Is Zyprexa and/or Klonopin an anticholinergic? My memory is absolute crap :(

Mentions anti anxiety meds, valium & xanax are mentioned but isn't klonopin on also or is it an anti seizure med found to have calming properties. I would say a google search is in order. Phillipa

I found this:
http://memory.ucsf.edu/ftd/medical/treatment/avoid/single
It says Klonopin exhibits anticholinergic like properties.

As for Zyprexa:

Looks like I better start on Namenda now :(

Article you posted is from 2002 and seems to effect the elderly in nursing homes. Schizophenia seemed to the diagnosis also. And Clozapine is one that can have serious white blood cell count problems so one must discontinue the med. I didn't see Zyprexa mentioned? Why is namenda better? Phillipa

The article was written in 2004.
"after the pooling of peripheral anticholinergic items, a significant difference in anticholinergic effects was found between 15 mg/day of olanzapine and placebo (26% and 6.4%, respectively, p = .008)"
The Namenda works on memory.

I though Namenda worked on memory. Sorry 2004 misspell. Phillipa

Zyprexa is moderately anticholinergic. Klonopin is not anticholinergic as such but produces a substantial decrease in the ability to form new memories. All benzodiazepine anxiolytics and sedatives impair memory, and people often forget what has happened after they've taken them. Benzos are certainly NOT good for cognition! It's really a balancing act between symptom relief and side effects.
