price of generic cymbalta--will it ever decrease?

Posted by Roslynn on November 14, 2014, at 16:50:31

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know if/when the price of generic Cymbalta/duloxetine will decrease? I cannot afford it as-is. I have Medicare and the cost of the duloxetine put me into the "coverage gap" for my prescription coverage.

Thank you,
Roslynn

I think when something first goes generic, its expensive. Then it gets cheap. I remember that with Risperdal...it was generic, but it was still a couple hundred dollars per month!

I don't know how long it will take...maybe a year? You could look up the patent law specifics. Sorry about that.

If you have goodrx an app for your phone or google then you can a lot. Her's a link. And each pharmacy listed must honor with the coupon. My husband saved me $100 on retin A Generic at target when he showed the coupon on his phone. Phillipa

Usually its expensive for the first year then it reduces dramaticly. I take gen zyprexa and when it first came out it was $900/3m, a year later and it was $37/3m. Now its $30. Same thing happeneing with niaspan. Was 600 11 months ago now half the price. I hate the med gap, wish obamacare would kick in quicker. It will be 0 gap in 2020. As long as we keep obamacare.

Also, I use BCBS advantage plan. It has the lowest prices on generic drugs of all the advantage plans, tru mail order. You just pay a little more for the insurance. But get a huge savings on med prices. Look at the actual cost for your meds. some part d is like $600 for a med and like $60 in other plans.
