Hey,
so, my doctor and i have been thinking and we couldnt find any idea as to what to do next.
The only antidepressant that EVER worked without causing psychosis is Remeron (Mirtazapine).
So i did get nightmaires from Mirtazapine so i am wondering if Prazosin could solve this problem and enable me to be on Mirtazapine. Please share your experience: Reason for taking it, dosage, effects and side effects(both long term risks and perceived side effects).
Daytime drowsiness? Weight gain. You can see my meds in my signature.
THX in advance!

Hey Scott,
now i definitely want to try it. Mirtazapine is antidepressant already, and it works for me i figured. Only the nightmares...
If Prazosine could handle this and even give an antidepressant effect ontop of that of Mirtazapine.. i would be one lucky dude.
I only wonder if i will have blood pressure issues with the Seroquel, the Prazosin and Mirtazapine. I already get dizzy when i get up from bed.
What do you think?

It is critical to take your first 1 mg dose at bedtime. Otherwise, there is a risk of syncope. You can then begin titrating the dosage according the manufacturer's recommendations.
"DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATIONThe dose of MINIPRESS should be adjusted according to the patient's individual blood pressure response. The following is a guide to its administration:
Initial Dose1 mg two or three times a day (see WARNINGS.)
Maintenance DoseDosage may be slowly increased to a total daily dose of 20 mg given in divided doses. The therapeutic dosages most commonly employed have ranged from 6 mg to 15 mg daily given in divided doses. Doses higher than 20 mg usually do not increase efficacy, however a few patients may benefit from further increases up to a daily dose of 40 mg given in divided doses. After initial titration some patients can be maintained adequately on a twice daily dosage regimen."

I had no nightmares while on Prazosin.
You might even finds it boosts your mood and helps with anxiety.

I tried prazosin. It felt like an AP. I couldn't function. Felt totally vegetative the way antipsychotics make me so I didn't give it a fair try. Hope it works for you.

of course like most other meds, it created a horrible depression. i started crying and three days i was unconsoleable and ended up almost trying to kill myself. finally called my pdoc direct and for some reason it hadn't even dawned on me it was the med causing this. he told me to stop immediately and a couple days later i was mostly better.
however, if anyone can have a crappy reaction to meds it is most certainly I.i hope it ameliorates symptoms for you.
best wishes.

Im probably not gonna try to soon.

my pdoc at the time worked with many folks with PTSD and he said it was showing good results. thats why he tried it with me.
i'm just so damned sensitive to things. its like almost nothing works well for me, or at least not for very long.
i digress, it is supposed to really help many folks. So weight that with what your pdoc suggests.

For me, prazosin feels like a very "clean" antidepressant. I have no side effects. Prazosin ameliorates most depressive symptoms to a moderate degree. Nightmares have not been a problem for me. More and more, prazosin is being seen as a treatment of daytime anxiety and depressive PTSD symptoms when taken throughout the day at higher dosages. I need 30 mg/day (10 mg t.i.d.) to glean a maximal antidepressant response.

High-dose prazosin for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder
Full article:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3896131/
Abstract:Patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are frequently symptomatic despite being on medications currently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for PTSD. There is evidence to support the notion that prazosin is effective for PTSD nightmares. However, PTSD-related nightmares often do not resolve completely on a low dose of prazosin. The capacity of prazosin to treat daytime symptoms of PTSD which are distressing to patients has not been well studied. Clinicians are reluctant to increase the dose of prazosin due to side effect concerns. To date, the highest reported dose of prazosin used for PTSD is 16 mg daily. We illustrate two case reports using high-dose (up to 30 and 45 mg) prazosin for PTSD with comorbid treatment-resistant mood disorders. We report that high-dose prazosin was safe, tolerable and effective for PTSD in adults. To our knowledge, this is the first case series to highlight the importance of using high-dose prazosin for the treatment of PTSD. In patients with partial response to currently available medications for PTSD, greater utilization of high-dose prazosin for the management of PTSD may lead to better outcomes.
