Does Remeron have same side effects as ssri?

From what I've read, its more sedating that most SRI drugs, but the sedation decreases if/when/as you increase the dose. Fewer sexual side effects. May work faster, at least in some people. May be less apathy.

I took ssris for a long time and also remeron for quite a while. They are very different in terms of side effects. Sexual stuff is usually ok with remeron, versus usually not ok with ssris. Sedation is strong with remeron but most of it goes away after a few weeks. Remeron usually increases appetite and/or weight and sweet cravings.
Honestly I don't like either one of them for antidepressants. Remeron is basically just the world's most potent antihistamine, and its other mechanisms are weaker than that. It looks very promising on paper, but in the real world such as pbabble it isn't often a stellar performer. It is though, imo, one of the best sleep aids on the market, at doses lower than 7.5mg. Like the ssris, it squeezed through clinical trials without solid performance. My main gripe with the ssris is the heavy focus on serotonin at the expense of norepinephrine and dopamine, where in my opinion most depressions are probably in the NE/DA circuits more than the serotonin circuits.
I have no idea what you are looking for or what your situation is, but in my journeys I have come to believe that combos of ssri + tca is as good as it gets unless one wants to step up to maois. Zoloft/Prozac with Nortriptyline/Desipramine....various combinations, mileage varies, experimentation needed, same as everything else. But usually a faster response, a more thorough response, and a more sustained longterm response. Based purely on the experiences of my own journeys and observing the journeys of dozens or hundreds of people here over about 20 years, I would never suggest an ssri or remeron or their combination to anyone. I would instead strongly support an ssri with a tca, but not either alone.

I disagree that remeron is not an effective antidepressant. A number of studies show that it can work faster and more completely than other antidepressants.
It has a different side effect profile (more sedation, less activation, increased appetite, some cognititive side effects).
If I am really depressed, anxious, can't sleep, anehedonic etc. remeron tends to get me feeling better faster than ssris.
For me, I think it has definately prevented depressive relapses.
Its not that good for social anxiety, it doesn't make me 'outgoing' like SSRIs

Didn't sedate me at 15mg. But then I took in combo with benzos. Only took a month. No withdrawals
