Hello I am a 24yr old male and take 75mg invega sustenna injections every 4 weeks for psychosis and have sexual problems with it.
Is Abilify a good med without sexual problems?
I would like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

I have never taken Ability, but judging by its mechanism of action, and experiences I've read, yes it can cause sexual dysfunction. But probably less likely to than the medication that you're already on. In my experience, any side effect you've ever heard of for any psychiatric medication on the market can
be caused by any medication on the market . Yes, some are less likely to than others to cause a certain side effect. But on the grand scale of things, what you are doing is putting a simple minded, man-made chemical into your very complex brain. Sometimes it can be like throwing a wrench into a clean
running machine, and sometimes you can experience life saving results.Anyway, there is probably someone Babble who can describe their personal experience with Abilify for you.

revv33,
I too would like to welcome you to Psycho-Babble. I've done very little reading on the effects that Abilify and other antipsychotic medications may have on sex drive, so I'm afraid that my knowledge on this topic is limited. I will, however, say that I take Abilify (5 mg of it) and have not noticed any decline in my sex drive since I've been taking the medication. If anything, I might say that my sex drive is a little stronger now that I'm taking Abilify, but it's hard to say for sure.
My experience with Abilify, of course, only means so much. I would recommend doing some reading on the effects that Abilify has on sex drive, taking a look at both anecdotal reports such as mine (and others that may say that Abilify does indeed hinder sex drive) and any scientific information that may be out there. I think it helps not only to understand what the science has to say about medications such as Abilify, but also to listen to subjective reports from patients who've actually taken the medications, and I hope that more individuals who've taken Abilify will share their experiences here.

Abilify is often one of the best choices for people who suffer sexual dysfunction on other antipsychotics, it is much less likely to cause sexual problems than Invega (which causes them very frequently).
Invega often causes a large risk in the hormone prolactin. This can reduce sexual function. Abilify does not increase prolactin.
Seroquel is another antipsychotic which does not increase prolactin, but Seroquel is often sedating, which may reduce sex drive in some people.
If you are doing well on Invega apart from the sexual issues, some doctors continue to prescribe it but add 5mg per day of Abilify. This reduces your prolactin level and can improve sexual function. Before you try this, you should have a blood test to check your prolactin. This strategy is only suitable if you prolactin level is clearly elevated.

I endorse everything that Ed has written here.
For me personally, Abilify 10 mg/day does not reduce my libido at all.
