Hi all,
Anyone know if taking your meds with coffee could interfere with their absorption? How about coffee interfering with vitamins?
Thank you for any help!

Quote, excerpt:
Caffeine could interact with psychotropic medications either by affecting their metabolism, or by altering their effects on the brain. Also, some psychotropic drugs make you prone to heatstroke and since they can also have a diuretic effect, adding caffeine increases the chance of further dehydration and intensifies the chance of heatstroke in hot weather.

Caffeine and psychiatric medication interactions: a review.

AbstractCaffeine can cause or worsen psychiatric symptoms but also has the potential to interact with many psychiatric medications. This article provides a literature review regarding interactions between caffeine and psychiatric medications. Caffeine is metabolized by the CYP1A2 enzyme and also acts as a competitive inhibitor of this enzyme. Thus, caffeine can interact with a wide range of psychiatric medications, including antidepressant agents, antipsychotic agents, antimanic agents, antianxiety agents, and sedative agents. These interactions may lead to caffeine-related or medication-related side effects that may complicate psychiatric treatment. By recognizing this potential, along with educating the patient, and utilizing a tapering approach, prevention of caffeine interactions is achievable. End quote.

I find that caffine gives me a slight lift in mood. Wakes me up and gets me going. It helps to counter the tiredness from some of my meds.

I don't drink coffee, in part because I am afraid the caffeine will result in anxiety, since it is a stimulant. When I tried Dexedrine (against depression) the first time for about ten years ago, I got horrible anxiety.
