For anyone reading this and able to help, I thank you so much.
I have read through this site and others and I still cannot figure out a few things about MAOI's and diets.
I know some people say Emsam, even at 9mg, doesn't need diet restrictions, but I'd appreciate it if anyone who can respond to this would respond as if I were taking Nardil or something.
I want to be safe.
1. Frozen Food.
Soybean oil, yeast extract, protein extract, the list goes on. Almost all of these are in frozen foods like burritos.
Do I need to avoid anything with the words "Soybean" and "yeast extract" or does this only apply to actual Soybeans and actual Marmite Vegemite, etc.
2. Freshness of food.
Articles I read say I can only eat something up to 48 hours in a refrigerator, or freeze it. How accurate are these numbers?
And also, if I leave a meals worth of turkey on a counter for 6 hours and come back and eat it, is that going to give me a hypertensive crisis?
Every article on the Freshness of Food doesn't give specifics instead just rigid, almost baseless assertions on what is safe. A lot of restaurants cook meat and let it simmer for a few hours. I need to know if that is still okay.
3. Date on Packaged Food.
When eating food, refrigerating, cooking, freezing, etc, the articles never say anything about the DATE ON THE FOOD so I have no idea if the only food I can eat has to have been shipped to the store that very morning or not.
Some food sits in a refrigerated area for multiple days before being bought, passing that 48 mark, but is still a week from expiration. Are those foods off limits?
4. Hypertensive Crisis and Testing Foods.
When testing what foods are okay (if this drug works and I hope so much it does) is there something that happens to me before the crisis that lets me know I need to stop eating whatever it is I'm eating? If so, what might that be and how soon does it take to occur for any of you?
Ultimately, if this drug can help me, I'll deal with food restrictions, but because I have an anxiety disorder and treatment resistant depression, I feel the need to understand this drug type 100%.
Thank you so, so, so much for reading. I don't know where else to turn to.

I have never tried an MAOI, but I find Emsam interesting. Have you started yet or are you about to? I can't help with your questions but I want to follow this thread.
And welcome!

Been 5 days at 6mg patch, still feel terrible anxiety, depression, and panic like I've felt since I got off Lexapro. Nothing new unless those are side effects of the drug also.
This is the end of the thread.
