Is it ok to drink a moderate amount on Lexapro/ssri? I know everyone reacts differently, but if I have a few beers, it's not going to ruin my treatment is it? I just upped to 20mg 7 days ago. I won't drink any hard liquor or red wine but 2 or 3 beers over a few hours should be ok right? Or no? I guess my biggest concern is will it ruin my treatment? Thanks
Jake

A "few" beers with Lexapro (escitalopram) isn't usually a problem. I have found that drinking alcohol with SSRIs does make one a cheaper drunk; you become intoxicated much easier.
Heavier drinking can result in peeing off the drug, but the extent to which this happens id debatable.
I guess the bottom line is: a social drink or two is fine, 7 or 8 socialbles is not recommended.

Yes I agree as before stopped drinking was a nightly beer drinker after work. I did take 10mg of paxil and .25mg of xanax at the time but in all honesty felt terrific the next day and slept soundly. When I lost taste and smell stopped drinking and took a nosedive still with me today 15 years later. So enjoy the beer. Wine is okay also. Phillipa

I take celexa which is basically the same thing, and I notice that several hours after drinking I get very hot. If I drink late at night, I will often wake up sweating. This does not happen if I don't drink.
I would be interested to know if the same thing happens to you. It is annoying - often I get up to open the window or turn down the heat, but the thermometer says the temp is normal - but fairly harmless unless it wakes me up. I tend to drink early in the evening now to get the "hots" out of the way.

Thanks, Cam. I never have more than 4 beers and
It's over several hours. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't ruining my treatment by having a couple beers. I stay away from liquor and wine right now.
