Same old depression...

Posted by sheilac on February 19, 2013, at 10:08:02

I've been taking 600mg of Trileptal a day for mood stabilization and it seems to work. I also have trouble sleeping, so I find that benedryl or atarax (hydroxyzine - old anti-histamine) seems to be great for sleep.

But, as usual, I have an awful lingering depression. I have no enthusiasm for anything.

I tried taking a low dose of Adderall, but oddly, instead of giving me energy, it made me very emotional and I ended up even more depressed and crying. This is not what I want.

I'm not sure what the answer is. SSRIs don't seem good for me. Not sure if a low dose of Geodon - like 20mg would be good or not. I worry about the heart issues associated with Geodon.

I feel like my brain has turned to mush. I've gained 10 lbs, I don't work out, I have no enthusiasm to do anything. I feel like I'm not living life.

I don't know what to do.

> Sheilac,
It looks like you are at a crossroad, and there are different ways to turn and you are wanting to know which way is the way to life. And darkness is upon the face of your life.
And which way will you be led to the light that dispells the darkness? Which way will lead you back to the green fields that you used to know? Which way will lead you to a restoration and healing of your soul? Which way will you be led to be by the streams of still waters? And which way will lead you out of the Valley of the Shadow of Death? And which way will lead you to be comforted?
I have been at the crossroads. And I did not know which way to go. And there was a road in the darkness that has a faint light that I could see. I went toward that light. And behold, a Rider on a white horse. And I asked how one could follow that road in the darkness. And He said to me, "My word is a lamp unto your feet and a light on the path to life. Walk while you have light, lest the darkness come upon you, for he that walks in darkness knows not where he goes."

If SSRI's dont help you, then I'd sugest nortriptyline (75-150mg/dya), Remeron (45mg/day) or Welbutrin XL (300mg/day) - all of these act on noradrenalin, so might work where an SSRI has failed.

If you need a hit of both seretonin and noradrenalin, you could combine any one of them with either Zoloft or Lexapro

HI I'm sorry you are feeling so down. Have you tried other AD besides SSRI? It really sounds like you could benefit from an AD...sometimes mood stabilizers alone will not be enough for depression. herpills

I've had problems with side effects from ADs.

In the past I have gotten a boost from Adderall, but in the end it caused too much instability with my moods. Even in doses as low as 5mg!

I also took Geodon, which caused more hyperness than anything. But it seemed like it was good, just not as a mono therapy med. I was worried about the heart side effects with Geodon. My old doc had me take Geodon as a mood stabilizer.

But, now that I'm stable (and depressed) on a mood stabilizer, I'm wondering if Geodon would be a possibility, or just stupid.

I've gained 10 lbs this winter due to my lack of interest in life and my low energy.

Not sure what to add.

There is a river. This river has the Water of LIfe. And when you drink of this water, it changes your life to a new life, free of depression and addiction. This water you can drink freely, without price.

Mirtazapine or Viibryd. They do not have the side effects many other antidepressants have.
