I start hearing voices after drinking for a few days. And they go away soon after a period of abstinence. What's up with that? It sucks that I can't enjoy a few beers. Is alcohol messing with my brain chemistry? Does anyone else find that alcohol worsens their mental illness? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

It didn't mine but when drinking my diagnosis was panic disorder. Haven't drank in 15 years as was put on chloral hydrate. And didn't start again when stopped taking it. Phillipa

Alcohol makes me a jerk. I avoid it like the plague.
The alcohol could be messing with your meds, as it increase the excretion rate of most of them.
I hope that this is of some help. - Cam

Thanks for your input. I really believe that alcohol is screwing with my brain chemistry. It's mainly binge drinking that gets me in trouble. I'm okay when I drink in moderation. Also, mixing alcohol and meds (ie Cymbalta) can damage the liver, which can further complicate things.
