Just got RX of benzos and the price for both a month of xanax and month of valim total =$8.70. Asked pharmacist why I was paying a fraction of the cost of last RX. He said that now benzos are covered by insurance due to the side effects and medical problems the Ap's can cause. Guess finally decided benzos are okay? Next will try to get name Brand and see if they are covered also. Phillipa

I'm realy suprised that atleast some of them werent covered by insurance, because they are so widely used in psychological/psychiatric disirders
Australias national insurance scheme can be strict, but even they cover valium, xanax, serax, restoril, klonopin and mogadon

I was surprised. To me this means that they are not as bad as we were led to believe. I guess brand will still be expensive though. P

Excellent! I'm not on these, but I have long thought it mean that the benzodiazepines were specifically excluded from Medicare (I hadn't known about the barbiturate exclusion, or had forgotten). Also, the article you link to mentions the Beers list that has to do with drugs among elders, but Medicare also has to meet the needs of it's younger members who have that coverage due to disability, not advanced age.
