> Phil song about lithium? Why? Phillipa
Amy Lee, of Evanescence, suffers from bipolar disease. She wrote an excellent song about lithium and how taking it subdues her and keeps her from 'flying', which I take as it must diminish her creative ablilites among other things. But in the song she admits she needs the drug.
It's a beautiful song; well worth a listen....thanks to Phil for posting it.

She's not bipolar and has never taken Lithium.
"It's not literal, it's not literal about the drug for me, I've never taken lithium before. It's sort of a metaphor about numbness and happiness and sort of like, it's me looking at happiness in a negative way because I've always been, you know, kind of afraid to be happy. "
She's lucky.

That's was her quote. lol I have nothing against happy. I thought she had to be bipolar to write that song. She's just a really good songwriter.

Ben Moody, with whom Amy Lee founded the band Evanescence, suffers from bipolar disorder, which was a factor in his decision to leave the band in 2003. So, while Amy may not be bipolar, herself, she is obviously familiar with it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was an inspiration (either consciously or not) for the song. I'm not an Evanescence fan, but I do appreciate Amy's talents as a singer and songwriter. There's something about her that is haunting, from her voice to her songs to her stunningly beautiful eyes that seem to radiate sadness. She looks, writes and sings as though she is intimately acquainted with pain. Which is probably a big part of why she is so good at her art. I had never heard this song until reading this thread, so thanks for sharing it, it's a good song. Another band, Nirvana, recorded and released a song called 'Lithium' in 1991. Singer Kurt Cobain was bipolar (not sure if he was ever on Lithium, but the song seems to embody an experience of the disorder.) Here's a link:
